He is going to ask you how your doing, see how well your walking, look at your incision and if you don't have any complaints he will see you again in another 6 weeks.

Depends on consultant and what he finds or is happy with also depening on you as a patient. I only had one 6 week check up this time but i think for my 1st THR I saw him a couple of times and then was dichrged, that was 11 years ago. 2nd THR was 7 months ago.

    Hi Patrick,

At my six week appointment I saw one of the surgeons team. He looked at my x-ray, looked at the scar, asked me to walk up and down the office, then to balance on operated leg (it was too soon for that). He asked if I had any questions then said, see you in a year.

Hi Patrick I had my 6 week check last Thursday post rthr. Saw the surgeon who operated on me and he asked me to balance right foot which I managed to do (just) and he also checked that both my legs were the same length (they are). He said I could drive again and sleep on my side, both if comfortable. I asked him a few questions about any long term restrictions which apparently there aren't any. Seemingly healing takes a minimum of 3 months and for some patients up to a year so regarding what you do listen to your body. I see him again in December but sooner if I have any concerns. Good luck with your appointment.

I saw my surgeon for a few minutes he asked me to lie down and twist my feet and that was it. He then shook hands and said he was releasing me as OK and that was it.

Sounds similar to my consultant's registrar when I saw him at 6 weeks!

Yeah same here but it's only recently that I have only been able to balance in one leg and I had my surgery two years ago. Also up to a few months ago it was painful if I moved awkwardly. But listen to your body and do what's goid for you.

Hopefully he'll say no more sleeping on your back, no more blood thinners, no more compression stockings, and you can now drive if he is satisfied with your progress

You guys are luckier than me.  I’m into my 8th week.  My ankle and part of my foot is still numb and there’s still swelling of my foot.  However, despite these obstacles, I walk well.  I had  an MRI done to check for Sciatica , nerve test and muscle test.  I will see my MRI result today.  All these were asked of me on my sixth week appointment.

I saw a member of my consultants team at 6 weeks. He looked at my wound and was happy with that, asked how my mobility was and if I had any pain. Loomed at my xrays, was happy with those and with my answers so then discharged me completely. But signed me off for one more week and did a 4 week phased return as i didn't feel ready to return to work.

They will probably want to take an x-ray. At least that's what happened with me.

Hi Patrick I Had my 6 weeks check up last Wednesday and saw one of the physiotherapist. He asked a few questions about my mobility and had I been exercising. I asked about the 90 degree rule and general restrictions. He told me to listen to my body and forget the no pain no gain mentality. I hope this is of some help
