6 week check- up and time to celebrate

I saw my surgeon yesterday and he cleared me from all restrictions (the big three, driving, pool, etc) except for the ones my body imposes! . Go forth, go at my own pace and listen to my body. But KEEP DOING MY EXERCISES - ESP FOR THE ABDUCTORS,

I am to see him in July for a follow-up and to consider and date for my second hip.

Re incision - sensitivity is expected, bio oil and light massage to start and consider more from an RMT in a month or so.

Re butt pain sitting (reading between the lines a little) suck it up, this is a traumatic surgery and will take a good while for the body to recover. Pay around with cushions and chairs to be as comfortable as possible and continue working with the PT on this as well as to stretch out the hamstrings and IT bands in both legs.

He gave me a copy of the full operative report w specifics re my model numbers, etc. - actually very interesting reading.

He personally doesn't think that stem cell research has advanced far enough in patient trials to try yet but he will consult with colleagues to recommend to me before our next appointment!

I love this guy. Too bad he is taken, I would like to introduce him to my daughter and several good girlfriends!!!!

I did a little dance leaving the waiting room and celebrated more privately with my man at home.

Feeling very lucky right now.

Linda, how many times per day were you doing your physio exercises?

I did the full series twice daily - some just stretches, others with weights, some weight-bearing and others with resistance (theraband). But there are a few I do more often (ankle rotations, toe stretches, hamstring stretch) because I could do them while watching TV or working on my laptop AND they kept my muscles from contracting and cramping. I do them without thinking now to be honest .. kind of a habit that I likely won't lose given how much it helps and the 2nd surgery not so far off.

I am trying hard not to acknowledge the presence of some most un 'spring-like' substance falling outside - BUT more than 15 cm has accumulated and someone is going to have to make it go away 😣😡

We had that earlier today. It changed to rain late afternoon. Slick roads!

I haven't used any weights whatsoever; just isometrics. My last private PT session is tomorrow (breaking the bank!) but, of course, I will continue the exercises.  There's a crackerjack athletic PT at the same clinic who has a great rep for bringing people over their humps/lack of progress. I'll entertain that if and when needed.  I think some fresh air is the Rx for now! And I like the sound of that aqua therapy. We have a salt water indoor pool at our condo and a Wednesday night ladies' aquafit program. Perfect!  I'm awaiting my surgeon's okay at the 6-week f/u to get back into yoga/NiA.  EGADS I miss them.

And, don't you LOVE those hamstring stretches? Aaahhhhh....

Lucky woman to have a saltwater pool at your condo - very, very jealous!

The athletic therapist I used presurgery is Fabulous but also $$$. I still may go back. However I have been very lucky with the PT offered free by the hospital and still have four sessions left with her.

Good luck and do stay in touch.

Good for you Linda l too had my 7 week check up today but l have now had both my thr's done one in december and the other 7 weeks ago.

I got the all clear to was so happy it was a long hard struggle to get both done and l still have the odd bad day and pain in my buttocks especially if l sit for a long period but l can cope with that. He explained to me why l still will have the occasional bad pains in my lower back and bum he said you have just had 2 hip replacements your body has to re adjust to walking diffrent as remember you have been limping ....more like waddling like a duck for over a year possibly more your spine has been wonky trying to compensate for your walking plus l have cut through all your muscles both ends. Its not just gonna heal up in weeks it can take months he said some people take 9 months to recover from hip replacements. Considering l am walking without and limps and my back is straight your body is getting used to being diffrent. It makes sence. Plus my buttocks pain is nothing compaired to the pain l had pre-ops and l have to think they are all still healing inside me.

I felt so happy like you l am finallly done both hips and its now time for me to start living my life again. Booked a trip to York me and the hubby at end of april and l can't wait to be able to explore it right this time as we went down in november last year and l ended uo spending 3 days in the hotel room in agony just because l tried to walk for a bit in york. I ended up my only day out was to visit chemist for painkillers.

So new life here l come and l am gonna make the most of it after the worst couple of years 😆 x

Go Laura go! But pace yourself a little woman!

I love York which I have visited a few times. I have photos of the cathedral decorated at Christmas that I adore.

I hope my next trip is Scotland but I need to wait til my other hip is done and healthy so I can do as much hiking and touring as I want. I follow two photgraphers on FB that take superb photos of Two

      Hi Laura,

Interesting how I have another AHA moment every time I read how brutal and invasive this surgery is - We know that already, right, and still we wonder why things are still hurting ...

I have something else rolleyes - the last time when I had to self-inject Fragmin in my belly for 6 weeks, I found that extremely unpleasant and painful - I thought they had given me syringes with blunt or bigger points --- so, I finished the 6 weeks but kept feeling bruised inside - belly, ample as it already has become, feels hard, big and very tender to the touch- mentioned this to GP who did not pay attention -

Now with the tranchantic bursitis I mentioned this to my PT and she explained that it is very possible that the previous 6 weeks of Fragmin (after 1st THR) might have causes bruising inside, had not healed completely yet and probably is scarred  - so the 2nd round was more painful - who would have thought !!

      Keep warm

      angel blessings

only thing I can do about it is, is massaging t

Thanks for this post Renée ... I found it hard to find unbruised areas in the last two weeks and sometimes encountered what I also thought were blunt needles or tough skin. This is a good note for me to remember for my next THR.

I had the same, sometimes had to really push it in, still ot some bruising, I'm 7 weeks.

Wow, that's great Linda, freedom lol but even so be careful, don't overdo things.

Thanks .. not to worry. I have two very vigilant protectors living with me right now. The real challenge is to push through some of the innate fears. For example, I finally (silly it took me this long I know) to try rolling onto my operated side .. not so great but not so bad either. Not quite ready to sleep on it though. Another piece of the puzzle .. and trying to move from 2 to 1 step per stair (actually have a PT exercise that mimics this). I can actually do several going down, but 'up' remains ... wait for it ... ' step beyond'!

      😂😄

Please keep in touch .. it would be nice to see how we each progress as we are on similar timelines, although I have a 2nd THR tentatively scheduled for late summer /fall.

      Keep hipping. 😉

      Great,

Brave, I haven't tried side sleeping yet, waiting until I see my consultant, I'm such a wuss lol don't want to risk anything. I have just mastered coming downstairs, tried going up but need some more time for that. It was scary, because ours are so narrow and steep, would be illegal in a new build.eek

I need my other hip done, but he said 3/4yr, I'm hoping it will be longer, don't envy anyone having two close together.
