6 week check up with consultant

Saw my consultant today for my 6 week check up.He was very brief and didn't really answer my questions. He felt that I would be ok to go back to work full time in 3 weeks. He didn't even check my scar.

No follow up appointment arranged. Also saw my doctor aswell and she didn't see her normal self.I asked for help as I am having a lot of hot flushes and I am not sleeping well. She has prescribed me a months supply of Estragerm MX 25 patches and wants to see me on June 1st which is a week before I am due back to work.

Saw my branch manager and he can allow any one to return to work on reduced hrs for up to 6 weeks before our head office have to get involved.I only have to work 3 weeks before I go away for a week.He would like me to work the first week Mon,Tues,Thurs & Fri for a maximum of 3hrs a day.I will not be put on a rota so I can come and go as I please and work where I want and even go home aftera couple of hrs if I find it too much.We would the build the hrs up weeks 2 &3,go away and then hopefully return full time.He will make sure that I stay clear from my usual heavy lifting and working on the very busy customer service desk.He is very caring and I felt happy having the chat with him.I have worked for the company for over 27 years and they do look after their staff.

Hi. I got a letter for follow up today for 20th August! I only got sick note for 4 weeks so will be back before I get signed off the hospital (hopefully) all very bizarre. So glad work are being good, mine are fab too just be careful over pay or leave. Whilst under sick note im on full pay (because I've worked there 20 years) but if I agree to go back on phased return I've got to make up hours with annual leave or unpaid leave. Just policy at NHS. Saw your other post about patch falling off. If they Dont suit they do gel which is same thing but saves the hassle. I've got to go 6 months on pretend livial so stop endo returning by going on estrogen straight away and I want patch or gel. I Dont really like taking tablets although livial doesn't come in any other form I keep saying it is only 6 months! Good luck with the hrt I hope it helps the flushes x

Did the hospital or your doctor sign you off? If it was the hospital see your doctor before your 4 weeks is up.Aug seems a long way off for your check up.I would double check that incase they mad a mistake. My reduced hrs are fine.No making up time or taking leave required. It is all standard policy with return to work in this situation.

Lucky you. In which case what a good way to go back. I'm only 5 days post op and was told ddidn't need to be signed off but I would get a follow up appointment. I did check but it is his next appointment. I guess the problem with seeing an endo specialist as my consultant is they are in demand. There Doesn't seem to be too many of them! I will need to see gp as only been given 28 days of tablets. Will see how I'm feeling but think 4 weeks is quite soon after op more because of hormone changes from BSO than perhaps the physical side tho the thought right now is frightening even if I am bored. I'm still waiting for stronger menopausal symptoms to kick in too. rolleyes

What job do you do in the nhs?4 weeks to go back is too early for any one. There is still a lot of healing to be done.Weeks 6-8 are the danger weeks where most damage can be done.

      Take care

My consultant increased HRT patch dose 2 times since op in February as having symptoms and gp not keen to discuss or do anything! I had the flushes , headaches and sleep was problem as just couldn't seem to get off to sleep at night. Feeling better now but cons said when they put me on 25 at first that it was waste of time. I am 48 and cons said I was young ( nice man!!) and that I needed a fairly high dose . It dose take a while, but difficult if people not monitoring or don't seem bothered. I got more info re HRT from  consultant than gp. At least your work sound reasonable and sensible. Everyone is different with recovery and depends on lots of factors but employers and drs can't just expect things to be set in stone.

What hrt are you on?I don't like the Estergerm patches as they keep falling off.It is only day 2 and i have already used nearly half of them.I am on number 3 and the pharamist advised me to stick it on first and then put some micro tape over it to hold it more secure.(so far this idea is working)
