6 week post op and seen the surgeon today

Got my 6 week check after trhr from my surgeon and got the all clear

Can remove the dreaded teds

Can sleep on my sides

And I have my freedom back as he said I can drive

I will get an xray on the anniversary of my op but unless anything happens I am free even though I have still to keep to the 90 degree and watch the

twisting round and no crossed legs just having it all behind me in 6 weeks

is better than I ever thought it would be

I was hardly able to walk for the past year (austioarthritis)and walked bent

over 2 sticks and no matter what meds I took nothing took that awful pain

away now all I have is mild pain in my back but he gave me exercises to do for that as it's just because I was bent over for so long

I actually went into a shop today and Baught my beautiful granddaughters a present as I have never been in a shop for over a year and the feeling was great and so looking forward to going to the park with them at the weekend

All I can say is that my online accounts are going to think I have left the

country lol

Good luck to anyone who is going on this hippy journey as it is not as bad

as you read just do what they tell you as they know what they are talking

about especially regarding exercises I am walking in the house with no

sticks but I take one stick outside but that is just for my back

Thank you for this forum as it has been great to read all the advice that is

given it has helped me especially before I had the op thanks again and

good luck to you all x

Helen sounds like its all working for you.

I remember 6 weeks, the freedom to turn on ned which I found helped softened the scar tissue

Enjoy it, I'm 4 weeks ahead, and now 6 weeks behind you !!!

Poor you I have read your awful time you are having but think

of your glass half full and don't look back just think you are still 4 weeks ahead and put it behind you I know it's easier said

than done but as long as you don't have the awful pain you

will overtake us again you have great spirit so you will come

out on top of your setback .I have been having a wee

celebration tonight and binned the teds so I am off to sleep

ON MY SIDE TONIGHT so hopefully I will get some sleep

Take care of yourself and all the best to you

Excellent!  Hi, everyone - I posted earlier but didn't introduce myself.  Jen, 68, left THR on October 19, 2015.  I must confess - I was one of those wierdos whose xrays looked dreadful, but I was never in a great deal of pain.  I watched my mother suffer with the same thing, and I never went through the agony she did...  So i had to decide between getting it done now or getting it done later; I knew it had to be done eventually since there is no way on God's earth that it was about to get better on its own.  And as the saying goes:  "Younger....what the Jewish mother isn't getting any".  Should I wait until I were 70?  85?  90?  I should only live so long.  So I made a list of things that I couldn't do as well as I could 5 years ago and things I'd like to learn, such as tennis, which  I simply couldn't imagine doing with my bad hip.  That helped me make a decision.  Sex was also a huge factor!  Happy to report that all is now great on that end (no pun intended).  My husband is a happy man and never minds helping me shower or get dressed smile

I agree wholeheartedly with the person who advised us to 'do as we're told.'  We may think we should be able to do more than we're doing, but we've only gone through this once (or twice....), and we couldn't possibly know as much as our surgeon and all the care experts in this area who see hundreds of us each month.  I'm so grateful for this surgical process and this support group and the fact that I'm going to learn how to play tennis (slowly!) this summer.  Hang in there, gang - hugs to you all !  - Jen

    Hi Helen,

    Greetings from Exeter,Devon!

sounds good progress, and you'll get better and better over new year too. my only comment would be to go shopping again, but this time buy a stunning dress for YOU !

And keep up with both recommended exercises and rest - both essential. Tis nice you are walking again - one of the best recovery exercises and also a chance to see lovely fields, that is if it ever stops raining here!

PS Talk about the 90 degree rule in 3 months time - I was advised not  to worry about that after 3 months.
