i had my surgery on 15 july ( 6 weeks) of the right ankle with 3 screws and i got my cast off 2 days back. doctors said that there is no need for the walking boot and my x rays are doing well and said that i can start pwb. what basic exercises should i do to increase ROM and my calf muscles strength. i feel numbness in my toes and a little bit of pain exactly at the ankle (due to screws).

My surgery was on the 20th. I have been to physical therapy but you can find a lot on YouTube. I still cannot get my foot flat on the floor. They had me pull on it with with a strap under the ball of my foot. One day I got it flat; it has been swollen since.

The best thing so far is using resistance bands up, down, left and right. The coloring of my leg improved quickly without swelling .

Massage has helped. Don't let the scar stick.

One of the best exercises that you can do for the ROM is to draw the alphabet with your foot. Although I was first transitioned into a walking boot, I started physical therapy as soon as my cast came off and that was very helpful to restore strength and range of motion into my ankle.

There are many videos on youtube for ankle ROM exercises and strengthening, but I certainly recommend working with a physical therapist in order to push yourself beyond your comfort (painless) zone but only to an extent which will not cause re-injury to your ankle.
