6 weeks after hip replacement can I go down onto the floor

Posted , 5 users are following.

hi,

im looking at some gentle restorative exercises for lengthening/releasing the psoas muscle which is causing me a LOT of aggravation.

its apparently best to do them on the floor (hard surface).

Anyone me know if it's OK to go down onto the floor yet?

i have been cleared to drive (although I don't cos the pain from psoas stops me from sitting long enough!) and don't have any hip restrictions from surgeon.

my other option is to do them on the bed, although it's a bit soft,......

    High LDW,

I attended a hip class with all the post-op patients a few months before my operation.

There was a way to do it but not sure if I can describe it properly.  With a chair to the side for support, and keeping the body straight you go down on one knee, operated leg first and not breaking the 90 degree rule.  Follow with your good leg so you are on your knees, kneeling upright,  You walk forwards with your hands and gradually lower your body to the floor.  You get up in reverse, operated leg last.

    Good luck xxx

Sounds early to me - At 11 weeks I have only just been able to get down, and back up again.

They were doing it before 6 weeks in the hip class but with close observation from a physio.  I think it was taught as a way of getting up if you fall over.

I couldn't do it pre-op, I was made to try but it was impossible with my gammy hip.

    Hi Lindsey,

My experience :   I could get down but oh dear Lord, getting up was so difficult - I panicked )I live alone) so did not do that anymore when by myself -

After a great deal of practizing with PT, I got  more confident -

However, if there is someone with you and you are comfortable, try it out and see for your self ....

    Take care
