6 weeks after Tkr

I'm just wondering how the progress should be after 6 weeks Tkr. I'm still waiting to get more sleep at night. My knee still feels really stiff, hot & "burning". Which doesn't encourage me to go out much as when I do symptoms are worse, am I being too impatient? Would love to hear others experiences . Thanks

I am 5 weeks post bilateral TKR and feel the same!! The stiffness is so off putting; don't feel like doing anything but I try. Sleep is on and off. I definitely know when pain medication wears off!!

At six weeks I remember I still had quite a lot of that 'burning' pain ou mention, as the pain killers wore off. Aching, draggin pain in the whole leg . . about 85 degrees bend, and 10 extension. I was walking two kms. a day, which the specialist said was too much when I saw him at the six week stage. . From then on, with steady exercise, things gradually got better, although the sleep pattern was disruted for several months. Took me probably about four months to meet the 120 I was looking for, and since then I've progressed to about 134 and 0 extension. I found the warm hydrotherapy pool useful . . .I would say it was around four months that one day I realised that the knee had not been the main item in my thoughts! that was a GOOD day! Wish you luck!

Wow 4 months till you were good. I'm supposed to go back to work on 3/13 which would be 6 weeks post bilateral TKR but I can't see it happening. I'm depressed too because I can't lose my job, which I don't think I will but my disability doesn't pay me as much as when I'm working and my husband is worried about bills. I'm between a rock and a hard place!!??

Oh No Eilzie but I'm sure it won't be possible for you to return to work that soon. Isn't there a way to get financial help to cover bills if your doctor can put a word in

Oh that's not good! six weeks is really pushing it for return to work. I think 12 weeks is more realistic, and as yours is a bilateral . . . even more perhaps! One of the problems with working is that you just don't have the time to do the exercises, or give your knee the time it needs to be elevated. . iced etc. Of course it depends on your job and the amount of travelling you would need to do . . but I hope you can manage to get more time for recovery. I can see why a bilateral was a good idea though, if it means losing money while you off work . .

Dear
What my advice is, be positive, your progress is good, If you think like this every thing will be all right.
As per your hospital/surgeon protocol of visiting them, if you are going by your own never mind with the aids you are using you are fine.
Recovery depends on person to person.
Don't compare yourself with others.
Have faith in God, You have a healthy future ahead.

6 weeks is halfway for most, ice ice baby.
I also found hot baths give relief.
Good healing

Why does EVERYONE keep bringing up that old Vanilla Ice song title! I'm really getting sick of it. Although, in truth, it should be the theme song for the whole group!!!
