6 weeks and scar become 'angry'

Hi fellow hippies - just come back from my 6 week assessment with my cons. Mobility all good and drove today (yay!) but in last 2 days noticed the area near my scar is hot - the cons said it looked angry. Not sore unless I sit or lie on it yet slept on it a little 2 nights ago.

Cons not worried but I'm a worrier! I wondered if I might have been over doing it a bit (walking and exercises, nothing different), cons thought possibly too so said use ice on it.

Anyone else get or have this?

I am 3 weeks out and noticed yesterday my scar was radiating some heat, I wonder if it is normal

Thanks for the post, I think at 3 weeks yes, but not at 6 weeks?

      Probably normal but never know...

I'm 39 days post op and doing pretty well.

I had the posterior approach, the scar has fully healed, but if I sit down for more than a few hours the muscle in my bum does seem to swell up and feel warm.

If I walk round a bit it does go down, and it's fine when I get up in the morning.

I think it's just the muscle they cut through takes a long time to heal, and the pressure when you sit on it doesn't help..I'm driving, but only short distances.

I wouldn't worry too much, just give it time.

Thanks for the post, it's probably just what you say so I'll give in another few days before I panic!!

I'm 6 months out of surgery, and I often notice that the incision area is slightly warm from time to time.  The doctor's assistant told me it takes 9 to 12 months for the hip to completely heal, so it takes awhile for all of the tissue to heal from being so insulted.  Just give it time, but if it becomes more painful, then contact your doctor.  I would suspect it's fine, especially since the doctor just saw you.

Thanks for the reassurance. It's probably fine I'll just keep an eye on it...

    Hi Jan

my scar is perfectly healed, I'm 7 weeks post op and doing well but my wound does feel warm to touch.

Its not causing any problem and my consultant said it takes 3 mths for the muscle to repair around the joint which I think is what's causing it, although if it looks angry you do need to put ice on it as advised.

If your consultant not worried then unless you have extreme pain which doesn't go away when rested or oozing from wound etc. don't worry.

    Hi Jan,

Yep, I've been self heating all winter (9 weeks post opp). I find it heats up if I've done a lot of exercise. Ice pack wrapped in a towel works a treat if it's bothering me but mostly I'm glad of the warmth 😀
