6 weeks in & a backward step

hi people,
6 weeks post op & everything seemed to me to be going great....and probably still is!
Got rid of crutches last week & physio happy to have signed me off. I think what's happened since then is I have probably overdone things thinking that I might be somewhere near normal...which is typical of me. A couple of days ago I forgot about my hip it seems and got my self into a slightly awkward position trying to pick something up and probably stretched myself a bit. Since then I have felt that my
hip region is slightly more tender & a bit stiff in general. I'm sure there is no more to it than that but I'm probably looking for some reassurance that I need to rest up a bit.
I know that 6 weeks is still pretty early & I have probably just strained the healing tissues a bit, but me being me, will just focus on it being a 'step backward'
Anyone had any similar situations I'd love to hear from you!.
Walking is fine, no pain so I know there's no major issue but want to know if I should continue with short walks & exercises or whether rest means rest.
cheers Bob

I would just carry on bob as you have been, six weeks is early days, you are still healing inside. Twelve weeks is when you should be back to 'normal'. Yes, you need to rest but, exercise is so important, walking is a must. You will have lots of aches, twinges, maybe, slight pulls, your hip is stronger than you think.

My physio told me that the hip will soon let you know if you've overdone things and it's not happy.
Rest up for 24 hours, then carry on exercising and walking. He also advised doing a bit more every day, I try to do more steps, weather permitting.

Also elevation and icing during the day is great for strains, reduces any swelling and calms down any over taxed soft tissue, muscle, ligaments or tendons.
They all kick off at one time or another, for example after surgery tendons are only back to 60% strength after 6 months.

Thanks for your replies one and all, you are all very helpful and 'spot on'
Its the conclusion that I have reached too, but sometimes you just need someone else to tell you!.
I have a follow up appointment on Tuesday, by phone due to the current situation, so we'll see how things go then when I speak to 'The boss'
Thanks again
Bob

Oh another thing, exercise plan is a must of course.
But as the months go by, and the pain level hopefully drops from the various areas of the body, andyou increase the exercise then pain returns as the muscles and tendons are pushed again.
This is good as they are strengthening, but we must not overdo it in our rehab routines.
