6 weeks on 20mg Fluox & struggling

Posted , 2 users are following.

I've been on 20mg fluox for 6weeks & my anxiety is worse the last week with shaking, agitation & muscle spasms. I'm just getting over a cold & this isn't helping im sure. My GP says I can give 20mg a few more weeks, or go up to 40mg, but i'm torn i was on Sertraline & when I upped them, I was like a zombie. Im minded to give 20mg more time, suggestions???

hi hun, i'd give them more time, fluoxetine seems one of those that takes ages to work and 6 weeks is still early days, my anxiety got much worse before it got better, i suffered with the shaking too!! plus i bet your cold isn't helping!

I'm no expert but i can remember how i felt in the early weeks, and i'm feeling so much better now xxx

that really helps My doc seems to have some little time to see me, he just wants to up my meds & see me in another month. I've got the full set of anxiety symptoms; dizziness, burning hands & feeling really spaced out (depersonalisation). i know ill get thru it, but this time of year its so hard (& today's my birthday), being stuck on the sofa...

      bless you, happy birthday!!!

i feel your pain though, i had every side effect going when i first started, and it doesn't help not knowing if you're ever going to feel ok again or if the tablets are right for you. The side effects do get better!! I haven't much faith in the doctors, they do their best but if they've not been through this they can't really know what we're going through.

I was on 20mg for 5 months for anxiety and low mood, my anxiety got much better after around 3 months but my low mood remained, and i finally upped my dose to 30mg about a month ago as i was scared 40mg would be too much, and my mood is now much better! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I won't lie, its been a long drawn out 6 months but i'm in a much better place now, and i'm glad i've stuck with it (and so many days i felt like just stopping taking them).

It may not take you as long as everyone is different, and talking on here has helped me so much!!

Hope you're feeling much better soon!! xxx

thanks Lindsey, that means a lot. For a couple of hours last night I felt much more like my old self; this morning I'm shaky, tired & anxious, but I see positive signs from yesterday. Have a lovely day. Rox xx

You sound just like i was!!! the mornings were always the worse, but i could have a few hours at night feeling better, i was also really tired in a morning which i thought would never get better, but it has ๐Ÿ˜Š try and stay positive, i'm sure that helps, and just take one day at a time, hope you have a better day today!! xxx

      Hi Lindsey, how's you?

With my partner's support, managed to get out of the house today & drive 15 miles to the nearest town for a walk, coffee & brief food shop. Been soooo anxious over weekend & was dizzy walking around, but really proud of myself for getting out as sun & good walk helps. Shattered now, but hoping to get out again tomorrow ; i wont be beaten!!

Hi rox, sorry not been in touch, had a couple of days feeling a bit anxious, feeling a bit better today though, how are you doing? xxx

sorry to hear you've been anxious Lindsey, it's a feeling that you never get used to & recovery is never straight line; how are you feeling now???. I spoke to my doctor again today as I've been struggling. He suggested again that I up my Fluox as the level I'm on isn't enough if I'm at 8weeks. I took 40mg today & will taper up 20/40 each day for a week & then go to 40 every day. Hoping it helps! You take care. xxx

hi rox, i'm feeling much better thanks ๐Ÿ˜Š i think the increased anxiety has probably stemmed from me having a bloody half marathon tomorrow!! its been booked for weeks but the closer its got the more anxious i've been, makes sense really but when i'm feeing anxious my mind don't see the logical side to anything!!

How are you doing on your increase? My doctors are struggling to prescribe me 30mg, they said its cheaper to prescribe the 40mg for some bizarre reason so i'm thinking of going up to 40mg too as i'm still not where i want to be.

Hope you're having a good day, speak soon xxx

Hello lovely, sorry to hear you're anxious about the half marathon; I think you're amazing doing it & am sure you'll do well. My doc says that I can't have 30mg, so am alternating 20/40 each day for a week & then up to 40mg. Saw my neurologist yesterday & he says that my headaches/spaced outness is migraine, so wants me to start amitriptyline ASAP, so more meds in my system๐Ÿคช. Iโ€™m doing OK on higher dose, but early days. Having a couple of drinks to celebrate my birthday last Sat, which probably a bad idea & will suffer tomorrow, but hey ho!! Where are you living; UK or US? Always here for you hun . Rox xxx

that was a daft question, this is a UK website I live near Cambridge!

Hi rox, i didn't realise this was just a uk website?? i'm from the uk anyway, near nottingham.

I'm aching like mad today, managed my half marathon in 2 hours 30 mins which i'm really chuffed with!! Never done anything like that before and only started running about 2 years ago when my depression/ anxiety got really bad and the doctor said that exercise can help, never thought it'd lead to this though lol.

Are you still ok on the higher dose, and are the new meds helping with your headaches? but more importantly, did you enjoy your birthday drinks??? hope so!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I had a couple last night, didn't want to over do it though and feel ok today other than hardy being able to walk!!

      speak soon xxx
