Over the last 6 weeks ...im constantly get a painful prickly feeling in both hands electric type of zaps worse when I'm driving in the morning this all came out the blue..i put it behind me thinking it will pass, last week whilst at home I thought right this is getting annoying let's see what Google has to say..IT WASN'T GOOD!!! I have devopled terrible anxitey since and also have not been able to sleep and also since than I think I've stressed myself out so much it has started to affect my feet..i don't have the burning feeling just pricks/zaps.before I started to read up yes it was annoying but didn't interfere in my sleep but now I'm convinced I have small fiber neuropathy..can someone please tell me how ther symptoms came about?what else could cause this..i know I need to see a neurologist which I will do private next week will they be able to shed more light on what I might have?any information will be very helpful...blood test was normal but low vitamin D doctor is saying this could be the cause,But everything I've read doesn't match the symptoms my pain is not bone or muscular.

Hi shak I've spoke with you before I was exactly like you and still am when this started I was looking for answers I'm still no further to finding out what happened to me overnight 14 months on ,today the pain in my hands and legs has been horrendous I don't know if you have lost feeling or loss sense of hot cold I have not which most have when it is nerve damage I've been looking up circulation problems,I'm so fed up normally when it's nerves it starts in the feet goes to the knees then the hands last which is mine as it attacks the longest fibres away from the brain vit d does not cause tingling anxiety can do this also especially in the hands is this there none stop ?

Hi shak I have constant and I mean constant tingling there is not a second without in 14 months in both hands and both legs to knee I would describe it as pins needles and strong rumbling sensations they have started aching badly this past few weeks ,I would say anxiety can cause what you have the mind is a very powerful thing and when you think about something so much if it's anxiety related it can get much worse and the feelings are very real I know I've suffered with missed heart beats ectopics for 14 years and when they first started they were horrendous and I had to see a councillor who told me the fight it flight response kicks in and even a second thought in our brain registers and causes the symptoms I still have ectopics now but once I realised they won't kill me they are much less as I don't take notice of them, I've had loads of bloods for this mri nerve studies all normal I know this isn't anxiety as it is none stop there are no breaks even when I'm busy doing things like even in the labour room on gas and air and diamorphine I was saying I'm tingling when my body was preoccupied with stronger pain ,it is such a worry everyday like this I wish I could go private and just have all the tests as I feel they only do do many on the nhs and then pass u to pain relief I was told definitely not multiple sclerosis as this does not come on symmetrical at once 3 different neuros told me that I do think my nerves are damaged to cause this but by what remains a mystery I still have strength touch and sensation it's strange but looking at this for 14 months there are many many like this with no answers please let me know if you find out what has caused this I'd be interested to know as not many come on acute

Hi dawn
I honestly hope you can find relief and if anyone has advice should definitely let u know...well I won't say my pain is constant but I do feel it lot of times a day prickly feeling here a zap feeling ther as quick as it comes it goes...but it is ther everyday!!!!because of th anxitey I didn't sleep for a few days but last night I took a anti allergy tab which causes drowsiness and had a full night sleep....can this be peripheral/small fiber if it does cause me constant pain or burning?or maybe because I've only had these symptoms for 6 weeks and they will get worse as time goes on

Also my symptoms are pre domintaly in my hands if I only had the symptoms which are in my feet...i wouldn't be so stressed, and like I said I didn't have hardly discomfort in feet until I started to get anxitey..from what I have read it follows a pattern from the legs and only advance cases after many years go to hands...the human body is a mystery

Hi dawn I thought I'll give an update..i saw a private neurologist yesterday in London who specialists in PN/SFN after listening to my symptoms he does not think I have this condition and my symptoms are due to something called hypersensitive something..i didn't get the full name,he was every assured I didn't have this and said it will pass in time and also said I can start on a small course of pregablin which will calm everything

I have peripheral neuropathy and sounds like what you have. Dr says can't really do much for that. Not really what i wanted to hear.

I'll jump in. I have been diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy by punch biopsies done at Stanford. Not really realizing it, thinking it was uncomfortable shoes, I had numbness in both big toes and some burning and soreness in the balls of my feet. Neurologist hete did nerve studies that were normal and said it was not peripheral neuropathy and referred me to Stanford. Low Vit B-12 can cause these symptoms and mine was low. Started Taking that, levels came up, but no improvement. So, once again, classified idiopathic. They usually prescribe Gabapentin for this but I had already been on that for some time for GI issues. Wanted me to switch to Lyrica, I think, bit I didn't want to take that, yet, anyway. Now, what is irritating is that my skin feels extremely dry between all my toes but they appear normal. Was told this is from the neuropathy. Last July, the last two fingers on my left hand became numb and I still have numbness in them. Was told it was not SFN, an EMG was normal. The Neuro doc here did that test, not Stanford. We do not have good Specialists here. All that being said, these problems can come from your back and your neck. If your EMG is normal, ask for an MRI of your neck. I wish I could be of more help. You might try taking 1000mcg of B-12 a day or mention it to your doctor. Have check all your B vitamin levels. The way health care is any more, you have to advocate for yourself. Good luck!
