6 weeks post op...

6 weeks ago I had a sacrospinious fixation and rectocele and cystocele repair. It's been really tough, Ive been in a lot of pain and had infections but feel like I'm on the mend. However, despite my surgeon telling me the surgery was a success, I still feel like i have a bulge. I'm too scared to feel with my fingers. Is it still really too early to tell? Had anyone had similar experience?

    Hi Ann

I am 8 weeks post op for anterior and posterior repair including Sacrospinous Fixation....... like you its been a tough time.

I ended up back in hospital a week later with sepsis from an infection caused by blood clots around my stitch and ended up in hospital for 9 days.

I've been left with a Fistula and at a check up at the hospital with the Consultant last week he has told me that I will need my anterior repair redoing as it is not as strong as it should be. I cannot feel a bulge like I had prior to the op but like you I have not put my fingers up to feel myself as I was not mentally prepared to know I had been through so much for it to have failed.

I know yours is your rectocele as well but I know what you are going through thinking that it has maybe failed, have you had a check up yet to see how you are getting on? That may put uour mind at rest, fingers crossed.

Hi Tracey, thanks so much for getting back to me. Sorry to hear that you've had complications with your surgery. Its such a horrible situation to be in, I feel like I'm just sat at home worrying about whether it's worked or not. I did see my surgeon last week and it was then that he said my prolapses were fixed, but I'm just left wondering why I feel a bulge still and especially at the end of the day like i used to. My surgeon told me to be more positive!

Maybe go back to the GP that referred you to get their opinion of how it looks? My GP was great with my original referral.

It is a frustrating system as I do not think we get enough information or support afterwards.

      Good luck x
