morning

After a dislocated hip on week 3 I'm progressing and getting more mobile day by day.

Just wondering how long before you can resume normal house work ie. Hoovering ironing and general cleaning. Also when can you bend enough to put on trousers, leggings and socks etc.Not sure if it's just me being cautious after the dislocation. No longer on pain killers but muscles still weak but doing exercises as discussed with the physio.

I am aiming to return to work in about 4 weeks do you think this is doable/advisable.

many thanks

hope all the hippies are doing well

💕

4 weeks sounds a bit early to me ... I was back on a phased return to work at 12 weeks after my revision.

See my website for the 'dislocation risk graph' on the "Hospital recovery" page.  The address is in my personal info here ...

Morning Gail!  So after your dislocation  was dr able to pop hip back in or did you have a revision.  I’ve heard but not 100% sure that once a hip dislocates it can happen again.   I dislocated mine too it was 3 weeks later. Dr could not pop my back in so had to have a total hip revision. Was 6 weeks non weight bearing and no hip exercises or hip flexion past 80 degrees.   I’m now 14 months out.   I think that you should be ok with house work but be careful bending past 90 degrees and twisting.  If you need to pick something off the floor kick your operated leg back and bend.  That’s how my dr told me to do that.  I still struggle a bit putting on my pants but I can do it.  I use a sock aide to put my socks on.   A long shoe horn to put my shoes on.  I still can’t bend down to tie my shoelaces or cut toenails or dry my foot.  It’s not easy but like you I’m cautious in not wanting to get another dislocation.  Plus I was having some of these issues prior to surgery.  Keep doing those exercises as they will help get the hip strong.   Good that you are no longer on pain meds.   I think a discussion with your dr would be good so you can know for sure what is advisable for you to do.   Did you have an anterior or posterior surgery?    Wishing you all the best and God’s blessings to you for a speedy recovery and healing.  Hugs 🤗 Linda

      Dear Gail

Sounds a bit like what I experienced. At about eight days when turning around in my swing office chair set to a safe height.

I picked up a small bottle of water, swung around and started to put it down on the table in front of me and such a pain in my hip that I dropped the bottle.

My hip had it was thought dislocated and I was taken into my local hospital. Hip fine so looked as if the hip went back on it's own thank goodness.

I think that for me my bruised muscles simply had insufficient strength to hold the ball into the socket well enough.

      Cheers Richard

Hi Gail, well done you.I would be careful with what you do.Maybe ask a friend to put your ironing board up & get a stool .Listen to your body. Please remember that you have had a major operation & it can take a good 6 months to 12 months to fully recover. Don't be shy about asking people to help you.regards Amanda
