6 weeks post op and in more pain.

I'm 6 weeks post op after carpal release surgery on my dominant right hand. I'm in so much pain. Some days so much more than others. At best I have a dull ache or slight shooting pains and at worse I feel like I need to chop my hand off. The pain is in my wrist either off to under my pinky or just spread across the entire area.

I've rung the hospital since my review and in both cases they told me to rest it. I don't do anything heavy with it but I do live alone so I can't avoid absolutely everything.

I've even got my doctors trying to chase the hospital up to do something for me. I'm now going to ring them again.

With all this I do wish I'd not had it done. I'd have lived with my wrist as it was in comparison. It's also getting me down, put weight on and my mood is low.

As a result and even though my job is very manual, I have 2 weeks left of my current sick note and rather than take additional if I need it ( thinking I will at this rate), I'm tempted to go back to work and seeing how I get on.

Hi Shelly. I too had surgery on my right dominant hand in September last year. I have discussed my post op on a previous duscussion, see if you can find it. From following this website and reading the many different outcomes of surgery I concluded that hardly two cases are the same. However, I had some serious pains in my hand and upper arm and eventually got relief from  extra strong paracetamol tabs 40mg. This was followed by pins and needles in all the fingers except the pinkey one, apparently the pinkey has a seperate nerve all to itself, then it was a slow recovery of my median nerve. If you can control your pain better then im sure you will feel better about the operation. It has taken me six months to recover and I am very pleased with ghe results. Good luck Shelly.

Thankyou Jim. It's taking a lot longer than my left did. They just told me that in a few cases healing can take a lot longer

Hello again. I just realised that I put 40mg and it should have read 400mg. But they did control the pain very well. 😄
