I think you need to see a doctor if you need stronger pain meds.  I'm not sure anything over the counter will be stronger.

That said, I learned when my son had surgery that you can use OTC stuff with some prescription pain meds and it can help.  With my son right after surgery he was on oxycodone, ibuprophin and acetominaphin.    Maybe you could ask your doctor about how to do that to use with the tramadol (or something stronger).  One thing that is nice is that you can stagger them so you never running out of all your pain meds at the same tiem.  It makes it a lot easier.

Are you having back pain or vaginal pain something else?   It sounds like your pain is worse than what is usual... maybe you need some extra help from your doctor figuring out what is wrong and getting better?

I'm still in pain and on stronger meds, but I had pain issues before and was on stronger meds before the op. My vaginal pain seems to be gone.

Oh wow, I would have thought tramadol is only used for a couple days post op. It's VERY strong, addictive, & I wouldn't think good long term. I only ever take it for 48hrs post op then change to nurofen & paracetamol. Codcomol is very constipating. Are you having normal bowel motions now? Tramadol is synthetic morphine. I can't believe a Doctor is prescribing it for this long without very fully diagnosing cause if pain bad enough to warrant it. And then it's not even working anyway. You urgently need to see whoever performed your operation.

Oh sheesh, no wonder you feel awful.  With all those infections anyone would feel really tired and awful.  I was ill early in recovery (unrelated to surgery) and I felt terrible and I was feeling tired much longer than my doctor seemed to expect, but tough.  That's how I felt. I'm sure those infections would slow down your recovery and it makes sense that it would take longer to get you back to normal energy levels etc. but I think the pain you are in is concerning.

It does seem like that is a lot of pain for so long post op.  I am on pain meds for back pain (stronger than tramadol) but I needed them pre-op.  I think that if you are still in that much pain something is up.  Maybe the position of surgery bothered your back and aggravated an underlying issue.  I'm not a medical professional at all and I don't know... but it seems like you need help from your doctor.  I don't think you should have to be in this much pain for this long.  I hope they can help you.

I'm sorry you are having such a rough time and I hope you start feeling better soon.

er, and I didn't have a hysterectomy.  somehow patient.info started sending me notifications for this forum but I am normally on the prolapse forum and I had a rectocele repair.   I am sorry I didn't spot that.  They are both gynae surgery and take a while to recover but they have different issues and I'm sorry to jump in.  I still hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi I was ill post op from an infection and the strong antibiotics left me feeling drained along with the surgery. They made me feel sick, have diarrhoea, a burning stomach and lose my appetite. I had to eat healthy and non diary foods to build myself back up. Bowel issues were ongoing and my bowels habits have changed I still have to be careful. If your in pain to the degree you describe that should be investigated something doesn't sound right. I think I was more 8 weeks recovery but not in constant pain. I certainly don't think you can entertain doing any kind of moving and handling until you have recovered properly or you might fo an injury and suffer a longer. Maybe you could ask for light duties for awhile? Hysterectomy is quite a major operation and requires plenty of rest to heal properly.

I hope you feel better soon x

I think you really need to check with  a doctor as most people don't have that much pain by 6 weeks post op.  Have you had a post op check up with your consultant or do you have one booked?  I lost weight when I was on strong pain medication for sciatica - Co-codamol can upset your stomach - I guess you will regain the weight once the pain improves and you can cut down the painkillers.   6 weeks is very early to return to work and most people are more like 12 to 14 weeks even with a desk bound job.

reflexology help you a lot for your problem. if you consult and done for a practitioner reflexology for a session, you'll relieve and better for the circulation of blood for youe whole body and the pain will release gradually. some hospital recognise reflexology for a therapy.

Personally I take 800 ng of ibuprofen and 1 tylenol. It helps with inflammation and pain. Best of luck love

Hi Barbara, go back to gp and tell them about the pain issues. They can give you something better or suggest to you 'piggybacking' with other meds to help, but obviously best to rule out infection and any other issues as well.

i know a lot of folks are saying there shouldn't be this much pain at 6 weeks, but frankly every op is different and every body is different so recovery will be too.  I suffered a lot of post op problems and was on (& still am) very strong pain meds. I do need some further surgery they think, but had to push to get the help I needed...had to push all thru this actually because gp was rubbish..ended up being urgently treated under 2- week rule for cancer! Anyway, just get yourself checked out and take the pain meds as you need to. Happy some ladies havent had to, but that doesnt mean your recovery isn't normal either...all respond differently. Best wishes. K
