6 weeks post op, struggling haital hernia repair

My surgery to repair a large sliding haital hernia went well, able to shallow just fine, but struggling with nausea, diarrhea, many symptoms of "stomach dumping", shoulder pain, burping-- seems the list goes on. Wishing I never had the surgery, how long is recovery?

Is it continuous gas and burping and it gets worse when you lay down? do you have very bad bloating and does eating bland food help? Was mesh used in the repair?  It could be Auto immnue from mesh. But I am not a Dr. so start now the sooner the better to find out why.

Hi, I had this op done nearly 2 years ago now, I had all the same symptoms as you after it but most of them went away in a few months, the bloating and excess gas/burping is the only symptom to remain unfortunately but I can cope with that by watching what I eat. Good luck with recovery.

I remember that feeling well, I wanted to give up with it too but it all sorted its self out but it just takes time, its the worst op I've ever had..the nausea and fatigue really get you down but get plenty rest..keep eating small bland food often and take plenty anti-nausea tablets and I hope your symptoms soon go..it took about 3 months before I started to feel normal again and another couple of months to return to full health.

Cut out most broth! its the seasonings that will gass up in your intestines....Broth isnt as bland as you think. Try yogurt in the mornings and at night to relieve the pain. it coats and sooths. but try to save it for when you are at your worst. also cut out things like doritos , corn chips, and fake flavorings like powered cheese on chips or crackers, you will be surprised what really hurts to eat.

Thanks for the tips, I'm calling my doc tomorrow for anti-nausea, drugs. Have heard that keeping candied ginger root handy also helps.
