6 weeks post orif - cast off and U.K. based

i had orif after fracturing (5places) and dislocating my ankle. i had the cast removed yesterday and have a boot but my ankle feels so insecure. i am fine with boot on but scared and shakey when i take it off. i managed a bath today but had to hold bad leg.

i am a bit worried about my follow up. i know we are in the midst of a pandemic but i have been told i dont need to go back to fracture clinic. i have no idea how long to wear boot from and have to wait and hear about physio. i can put a small amount of weight on it when i am walking on crutches but i dont know what else to do. anyone else uk based just wondering if same situation with nhs elsewhere at the moment. thanks

    Hi,

I've had Orif too on the 7th Feb, my cast came off on the 18th Feb my surgeon has told me to non weight bear for 4 weeks following surgery. the doctor I saw on the 18th Feb told me to have the boot and try and weight bare but physio have said non weight bear for the full 4 weeks, which I'm going to do. you should ring your hospital and try n speak to somebody who can advise you. I personally think you should rest it's still early days, definetly don't try n walk with out your boot as it's there for support. Hope u get some help and make a quick recovery. I've heard it can take months. Stacey.
