I am now in a boot after being in a cast for 5 weeks post ORIF surgery. I am 65% weight bearing however I have lots of pain around my ankle. My PT says its normal but its preventing me from progressing (i think) anyone else experiencing this?

its very normal to experience pain when you first begin to bear weight

I went FWB at 7 weeks and it was painful but with PT I was able to progress out of the boot and into sneakers but it wasnt overnight

my surgery was 7/11 and by mid September I was out of the boot

Some days my ankle is still a little stiff but for most part Im back to my normal routine

    Good luck

5 weeks seems early to be weight bearing. Dont push it, if it hurts dont do it!

yes I think it is normal . it takes a while and it takes a lot of patience. Don't let yourself be rushed if it's too painful. I didn't actually start walking until I was out of the boot and in a ankle brace. even then it was with a walker or I could have used crutches but I was scared of crutches. my accident was on July 3rd and the surgery was the 23rd. I am back at work now and walking and driving but. I am back at work now and walking and driving but I still have pain especially after a work day where I've been on my feet 4/8 hours hours. it is a long process and they don't really warned you about all the different little pains you will have and about the depression that goes it is a long process and they don't really warn you about all the different little pains you will have and about the depression that goes along with it. you will get through it . I have good and bad days and they tell me its normal. Good luck to you!

Well its actually almost been 8 weeks. I had my surgery on 10/31. I was counting just the 5 weeks I was casted. I had a soft cast immediately after surgery for about 2 weeks. My doctor did say that he was moving a little fast and the weight depended on how I felt. I'm gonna give him a call and let him know how I feel as it is now too uncomfortable for me. My PT days are great but the other days I'm miserable.
