6 weeks post toe fusion

I am 6 weeks post big toe fusion and just stopped wearing my orthopedic cambian walker boot!

Yesterday I put my tennis shoes on and kept my left one as loose as I could by not tieing it.

It feels so weird to walk again with weight on my left foot. My gait is slow and stiff.

Any suggestions as to how to improve my walking or strength in my foot?

Hi, I had my second toe fused 5 months ago. At first my toe was very weak feeling..but its starting to get better. I still sometimes feel very weak with my toe but it can take a year to fully recover. This surgrey is very scary and I never thought it would be this hard. Just hang in there.

      Hi Holly,

It is a day by day recovery, today I was able to tie my sneaker and do yard work which I love to do.

Walking on uneven surfaces and on my feet for a few hours outdoors is the best therapy!

I start PT this Thursday to help my slow gait.

Hello, I was interested in your post as iv had a big toe joint replacement cos I have OA in both big toe joints, iv had replacement rather than fusion as I had a bit of movement still in the toe joint. I go to physio every week and use the hospital gym, also do exercises at home.
