6 weeks post wisdom tooth extraction. Shards of bone coming from gold?

I had my wisdom tooth extracted 6 weeks ago, lower jaw. It was a really difficult tooth to extract, had to drill my jaw bone to extract it and took a very long time. I had trouble with it from the word go, a horrible infection which was treated with antibiotics and 3 weeks later still horrible pain, my oral surgeon wanted to open up the gum again and clean it out to sort it out but following a check up the following week decided he was happy not too and so was I as I was feeling loads better and starting to eat better. After 4and a half weeks it started hurting again fandor a couple of days no where near as bad as before just uncomforatable, i had a shard of bone come out of the extraction site but thought must be part of the process after having my jaw bone drilled. Yesturday at 6 weeks post extraction I bit into a baguette and my jaw clicked and caused quite a pain but after that was ok today i felt it "niggling" not bad at atall and a shard of bone has come out again. Is this normal or would it be best to ring the oral surgeon back?
