6cm Complex cyst found on many scans, surgery showed nothing!! Help!!

Around 6 weeks ago I was having stomach pain, due to kidney infections. They started to clear but pain was still present in lower stomach. An ultrasound was done which found a 4.6cm complex cyst, theybwere unable to identify where abouts it was located other than my lower left stomach.
I was then sent for a ct scan, which showed the now 5cm complex cyst, again unable to determine where it was located.
I was then sent for another ultrasound, this time an internal. Which the now 5.6cm cyst was again seen, still no 100% of where abouts it was but they guessed it was a dermoid on my ovary, or in my endometrium. I was booked in to see a gynecologist for surgery.
I saw the gynecologist a week ago, who did an ultrasound in his office. Confirmed he was 100% certain it was a dermoid of around 6cm. He said he could see bond and a tooth and that i needed it removed asap. That my ovary would also be taken.
I had surgery 2 days ago. When waking up from surgery the nurses told me that there was NO cyst at all. I have just spoken to my surgeon who has said there was a small lesion on my ovary which was removed and has been sent for a biopsy but there was absolutely no evidence of a cyst being there at All!!
How is this possible? I've been in pain for 6 weeks. 4 tests have confirmed the mass. My stomach has looked like I'm 6 months pregnant and swollen, pain killers wouldn't even keep the pain at bay. And now I'm being told what was there was actually NOT! Any advice or anything would be really appreciated! I'm going to insist on an ultrasound when my incisions have healed as i just don't understand how this is happening.

Hi carleah.
Wow!! Ive never heard of anything like that before. Was it the same consultant that seen the dermoid that did your surgery?. Ive got a dermoid & all the syptoms you have i have also got, i currently look pregnant myself.
If bone etc has been seen on a scan it cant just go on its own. I would also demand another scan & request the results get sent to who did your surgery. Im just shocked at your story. Hope you recover well & find out the truth.
All the best

Hiya, I had something very similar happen to me last year. I had been in pain for a long time, started as a water infection but the symptoms never went away. After blood tests and an x ray not showing anythino i ended up paying for a private ultra sound because I was feeling so poorly. The scan showed a 5cm complex cyst on my right ovary. The GP referred me to a consultant gynaecologist and he got me booked straight in for a laparoscopy. When I woke from the surgery I was told that they cyst was not there and I was given a letter from the gynaecologist to give to my GPS which discharged me from his care. I insisted on going to see the gynaecologist to see what had happened and came out no better off. Since the surgery I have been fone and the systoms have gone but the surgery was painful and took time to recover from which seems to be pointless as the cyst had gone! Doing my own research it seems that they can just go on their own and in my case a scan before the surgery would have meant that I wouldn'thave had to have the op. x
