    Hi Carol

no, you're not a wimp! If you were you wouldn't have gone through it in the first place.

We all go through the stage where everything is black, but keep going.

Just take it gently and things will improve. I'm 6 weeks in from my op and it does get better.

    Take care

    Hi Carol

Of course you are not a wimp.   6 days post op!!!!!!  thats nothingwink Take it easy.

Its a GP that deals with OA apart from follow ups after the op. What about making an appointment with him and seeing what your pain relief is like????

I was given a number when I left the hospital to rng if I had any queries. Anything like that?  You could ring them and tell them about the pain and see what they say aboutpain relief. Not all meds work for all people

    Hi carol

its not nice the first couple of weeks and the pills make you feel down as well. You have had a major operation and the body needs rest and the new hip needs exercise!  It will pass believe us all on this great site.

    Hi Carol,

it is very early days, just remember what has been done to your poor leg!

you will soon start to slowly see little changes. Take all the painkillers you are allowed and excercises should be very slow and gentle. I was quite low at this point and asked the consultant why people said it was a piece of cake. He looked at me and said, they just forget. He obviously sees people at the early stages almost every day and really was very sympathetic. Keep distracting yourself as much as possible, lots of rubbishy television, foody treats, be good to yourself, it's not a race, there are no shortcuts I'm afraid.

Hi Carole as the surgeon said people forget about the problems immediately post op , bit like having a baby, you forget the pain once you've recovered which just shows how amazing it this op is.

Chin up , you are ONLY 6 days post op, rest, relax and don't worry, gradually you will begin to feel better and see improvement, but it's all gradual.

Dear Carol,  Like said, you are only 6 days post-op .... I had no idea that THR is so invasive - I was in denial for a long time - If you are not too sqeamish you can have a look at the youtube surgery - not for the aint hearted, however, after I watched it, I had so much more respect and understanding about what was done and how my body has to heal ... It nade me knider to myself instead of beating myself up for not progressing faster ... It is a roller coaster ride - take your time !

    Hi Carol

I felt exactly as you do until approximately 9 days post op, I dont know what happened but I woke up and decided to hoover, i went on over a few days, to tackle washing floors, ironing, cooking etc,  To be honest on day six post op I was beginning to think I would never recover properly I was exhausted in pain and regretting my decision.  I am confident you will start feeling better soon, it makes a huge difference when the pain starts to feel less severe and you get used to getting up from your chair and bed.  Stay positive, everyone has different recovery rates.  I am 18 days post operative and life is getting better and I dont regret having operation for one minute, hang on in there!

    Take care

    Hi Carol

Perhaps I should have described what I'm doing as mopping the floor I am not on my hands and knees cleaning it. I went to see physio on Tuesday he took one of my crutches off me so I still have one but I find I can walk around my bungalows without it for a period of time.

Don't get me wrong I still get tired and need to rest. The most difficult thing for me is I'm not sleeping on a night due to having to lay on my back I wake up with pain in my back, I cannot wait to be able to turn over on my side and I am longing to have a nice soak in the bath. I promise you this will be you in a short period of time just try to stay positive and take things at your own pace. Take care x

      Hi Carol

I had that directly after surgery I was told that's it's muscles, tendons etc going back into place. When you think the trauma our bodies have been through to get the replacement hip into place it's only to be expected. Good luck with your appointment make notes to take with you, and if gel sure they will be able to reassure you and come up with some solutions for you to make you more comfortable. Let me know how you get on. X
