6th day

for panoc attacks and bad anxiety I've been given citalopram to take. Been signed off for 2 weeks from work.
for the past week I've been pretty much stuck indoors, I've not gone out on my own as I'm too scared. I've been having panic attacks everytime I get in the car .
the first few days i had a really bad sick feeling when I yawned. this has kind of gone hopefully. but now I still get the spaced out feel for a few hours and feel extremely tired. my anxiety and thoughts have also got really bad.
I go on holiday to gran canaria on the 15th in about a weeks time for 21st. i don't even know if these tablets are worth the hassle as I won't really be able to drink or enjoy my holiday due to the side effects. at the minute I can't even leave my house let alone going to another country.
How long does it take to feel better. what did other people experience on their second/third week?

i noticed a huge change in week 3. ive been off of this med for over two years now and am fine but i do remember that time very well the first two weeks my anxiety symptoms increased twofold. i was so upset i almost stopped taking the meds. i stuck with it and by the end of week 3
they did start to work but slowly nothing in this process seems to be a quick fix. My anxiety issues were acute after my divorce and are now gone but that was by far the worst thing i have ever experienced in my life. if you have the ability and the resources to get out of the house the other thing that really helped me significantly was accupuncture. worth a try maybe good luck and i hope things get better for you every day

I think you'll be through the worst of the side effects by then.
Regards the drinking , don't worry about that, i drink on them & it makes no odds.
Hang in there fella..

I'm on 20 a day. I've taken it this morning and all I've had so far is constant yawning which makes me feel weak afterwards like I'm extremely tired and im always thirsty. hopefully I won't suffer the spaced out feeling

Hi Emily
It took me a good bit longer than 3 weeks before I started to feel better. My anxiety increased during the first few weeks of taking Citalopram 20mg. After 7 weeks, the anxiety has gone down significantly and I am feeling a bit better. I am suffering from major depression and that is the main reason for taking it.
A couple of people mentioned acupuncture. I've only had one session, but felt different the next day, not crying as much and a bit more motivated. I plan to go back for further sessions, although it is expensive.
When your anxiety is really bad, a diazepam in low dosage would help, but don't rely on them for too long as they are very addictive when taken regularly and hard to get off.
Good luck and I hope you improve soon.

Hi barb67030
I live in the UK and can't access acupuncture on the NHS but will continue to pay privately if it seems to be doing me good. I liked the practitioner. He was an acupuncture private specialist. He recommended going back for a second session in a week and then every 2 weeks after that.
I'm trying a multi-pronged approach to my depression: Citalopram, counselling, meditation, exercise and acupuncture.

thats great go as much as you can afford i noticed a great improvement after 4-5 sessions it also stuck with me for longer after the 3rd session. These boards are helpful. They were for me anyway. So many people struggle with anxiety and depression and those of us that have understand. if you have a smart phone try an app called calm.com it is very short meditations. some are only 2-3 minutes while others are longer if you have time but i found myself often stopping during my day and doing a 5-minute meditation to just calm myself down when things got to be too much i still use this app throughout my week as a tool to stay focused stay strong you are not alone out there. Much love to you

if i stopped taking them now would I get any withdrawal symptoms?
I just hate how they make me feel , the past few nights I've been waking up struggling to breathe, everytime I yawn it makes me weak at the knees.
I've heard it takes ages for these things to work. and then if you finally come off them, there's more symptoms. this would be my 8th day on them
