7 day wait....

seven days and no sputum results yet, so and extra seven days suffering, no antibiotics, nothing. I'm losing hope here so alone with this damn thing that's invaded my body like some alien. I could scream, then cry, then curl up and pray tomorrow I waken and it was all a dream sad

Oxygen levels are measured by a pulse oximeter which are little machine that fit on the thumb or finger and measure the oxygen levels in the peripheral blood vessels.95-99% Iis about normal below 90 is not so good .You can buy them on the internet from Amazon .co .uk, but will it make you panic more. They are the little machines that have a little red light which you will notice the nurses using on and hospital drama,Casualty,Holby or ER and now in Crrie or Eastenders.or you might see Dr Karl Kenedy use them in neighbours! Good luck David

Hi David.  You are having a bad time and I'm so sorry for that.   I've been to hospital today and they suggested that I ring them direct, five days after sending my sputum sample, as that is better than contacting my GP.   Could you do that?

I am going to take a sputum sample to my Pulmonary doctor tomorrow...

    Hi David,

Anne has a good idea, maybe to ring the hospital direct; I did that two weeks ago for an appointment and they booked me in...but you could tell them that you are desperate.

    Hope it works for you,

    Blessings and prayers,

    Lesley

If no results then this could indicate that the infection/bacteria is not there.Normally the laboratory will recieve the sputum and plate it up and grow it for 24 hours. Then they look under microscope and if anything is growing they replate this with little discs of several  antibiotics to see which one the bacteria is sensitive to.They would normally get back to the GP very quickly if there was a problem but days is a long time and results should be back!
