Been reading some of your post about Sertraline, been on them for 7 days, side effects are feeling quite low, very dry mouth & thirsty, general feeling of beeing unwell, slight blured vision, cant sleep, but feel tired & cant really be bothered with doing anything, this is really not like me, can anyone please let me know how long the effects will last, i am not a great talker so dont really tell my wife how i feel as i dont want it to upset her.

please advise

hi,7 weeks for me on tues.So far my timeline is 0-2 wks-awful,okish for 3 days then bad till week 4 ,wks 4-6 up and down every few days,wk 6 till now :dreadful.Explained to me yesterday by a contibuto this cld be blip or a sign that sert aint for me.Will continue till wk 8 + see.I am hoping for a blip as i have had days of feeling good at wk 4.Now this will not necessarilly go for you BUT after reading + all advice give it 8 wks-we are all very diff.I am only on 50mg + may need increasing but again i think this needs looking at at wk 8.It seems athat sert is a "slow burner".Sert has made me so bad i cannot function, cant go out  +the anx is back-which kills me !What mg r u on?

same as you, 50mg for 7 days then 100mg from tomorrow onwards, realy unsure what to do, if i feel any worse than i do now by takin the 100mg i would have to stop right away, its doing my head in, only feel ok sittin in the dark watchin telly, thats not normal for me,

hi-big jump 50 to 100,why not do 25?So many folk hav a ahard time on ssri's for first few wks.In the 7 wks i've been on them i wld like to hav stopped but then again the anx just crippled me out the blus + i was off wk.If i stopped the meds the anx wld come back with little or no prospect of it going-at lewast with sert there is a hope of it going + me getting back to a new normal.Think about it that way.

your side effects all depends on how your body reacts to the meds roy6894, everyone is different, some have terrible side effects and others have hardly any at all.  it takes about 6-9 weeks for the meds to settle down into your system.  i know its hard to talk, if you struggle speaking to your wife then being on here is good for you, we try our best to offer advice/support where we can, welcome to the forum, a problem shared is a problem halved and we all share our troubles on here. hope to hear from you again :-)

Hey, Roy, plz talk to ur wife. She will be ur biggest advocate.  Anxiety is not a mental disorder, even though u may feel like u r going crazy, u actually will not. So, assure her of that.  I have been off and on SSRI's, since my 30's. Some i have taken with success but had come off after taking them for a length of time. I recently came off of Effexor bcs of electrical feelings in extremities. Tried a few months w/o SSRI but realized anxiety creeping back. Started Sertra/zoloft 3 wks ago, no bad side effects but not much relief for anxiety.  I know i need to keep going til 8 wks to make sure if it will work or not. So, this drug my not be right for u or my chemical makeup, u may need to try something different in the SSRI family. But as i mentioned b4, communicate with ur wife, possibly when u r having a level moment. Also, look into "Fom panic to Power" and "A Life Less Anxious". Both resources r online and give every day practical help, perspective, that u can share with ur wife. I truly believe that practical understanding of anxiety and meds go hand n hand. My husband has been so much more supportive and patient since I shared some excerpts from the above mentioned resources. Keep me posted on ur recovery. Wishing u btr days ahead wink

hi christel, have been on citalopram a few times and they worked great, that was when i was at my worst, but tried to take them a few months ago and felt really bad on them, didnt seem to be having the same effect as the times before, i had it in my mind i was not going back to my doctor, but the feelings where driving me mad, and ended up making the appointment and starting the sertraline, being an ex boxer in my youth, in my head i see it as a sign of weekness, i have spoke to my wife but never tell the whole extent, i have managed to keep it from the family as mum is quite ill and has has her own problems, as does everyone, dont really want anyone to know as i have always been the strong one in the family, and would hate any friends or family to think i was weak, and think less of me, as i know people dont understand until they have had the same thing, i wont be taking the extra daily tablet as recomended by doctor, but will stick to the 50mg untill i next see him, hope the tablets have started to work by then, thanks for the reply

7 th day on 100 mil of Zoloft and I feel anxious and jittery! I was on Lexapro for 10 yrs before my anxiety and depression returned! My GP stated the Lexapro had pooped out! Trying to get any sort of psychiatry in my area is just about nil as they are so overbooked! My GP is not the greatest when it comes to mental health! Hope we both get back to normal!
