HI all,

Just thought I would keep in touch with all you hippies and hippies to be.

Well here I am at 7.5 months post hip and suddenly feeling so much better. I am walking, putting my own socks and shoes on most of the time and driving as normal although I have changed my car to an automatic.  Last weekend we went down to Brighton and I managed to descend 101 steps to the under cliff walk at Peacehaven (see Pic) walk 0.5 mile and  0.5 mile back and then climb 101 steps to the top. I was so pleased with myself. biggrin.  The picture shows exactly where I walked. Follow the red linelol

This morning (Monday) I went to hydrotherapy and when the physio knew what I had done at the weekend she said "ok you do all your excersises with floats on", ( take heed don't tell them everything boasting doesn't always save you biggrin I managed it and now am totally whacked and in need of a well earned rest. I have been through a patch where I didn't think I would ever get better, but now all of a sudden everything falls into place and I have my life back. biggrinbiggrin I still need my other hip doing, this is the one that gets aggrivated and painful nowadays but it will be done soon.

My message to everyone is don't give up it soooooo worth it, ups downs sulks and miseries all steps along the way. biggrin. Love Gillxxx

    Hi Gill,

Great to hear that you've suddenly found your old life, or perhaps an improved one physically?  Well done.

Your update really does give hope to people that feel that they're not progressing as well as they had thought - me included.  I'm now almost 4 months post op, not too bad but still lots of aches and pains from time to time, especially knee and nerve pain going down leg during the night that wakes me up - did you get this?

Great to hear your progress, keep it up.

    Jo xxx

Thanks, nice to hear, I am 14 weeks today. Yesterday wasn't my best, it seems I can be good one day and then thigh and knee pain the next. I was told by nurse on Bonesmart it could be 6 months and with some a year before feeling normal again. Just keep plodding along, my cousin older than i, was hiking in Puru at 3.5 months she said with no pain whatsoever, well...I don't think I could hike too far 😞

My Consultant said it would be a year before I was fully recovered thats why he didn't want to the other one yet. xx

In general at 7 and a half months  quite good. Good movement, good strength no problems with everyday activities. Wound area is still a bit sore and numb and it's tender on the trochanter area and I can't lie on it. I did go back to the surgeon because of this and he said the numbness would go eventually and not to worry. Said it wasn't bursitis. However I think I might not have been pointing to the right place in the consultation and more where the scar is which is behind the trochanter so i'm convinced that there is some as it's worse when I bend a lot and gets more sore  - though the discomfort has only been really bad when I was doing an awful lot of gardening and walking. I had been to the doc first and he said it could be bursitis. I think I get a bit flustered at these appointments! Anyway there is a recall for xray  next March and forms to fill in then so if it is still a problem I will try to make more fuss then. I think they would think I was a nutter if I went back before! I'm just going to ice it , use ibuprofen gel  if need be and carry on as normal The only other thing that can be done with bursitis is injections and they have to be really careful with that because of the implant and infection risks. I won't be doing that much in the winter months anyway. Really would like to lie on that side though.

I can't lie on that side all the time either and yes know what you mean about it being numb mine is the same.I haven't tried any gardening yet I left it when Alan was taken poorly so between us we have managed to keep going. smile

Hi Gillcat - good indeed, and worth doing, muchly.

hope you Annedi are better: small complications do occur and seem very real at the time.

      AND

I'm also aware other medical probs do occur that are not hip related but we put the two together: like I thought my toes were sticking together cos leg mis-alligned post op, when it was only a corn between toes!

have agood day - hope those in pennines are safe and unflooded
