7 Week Post Op Review, No X-ray ?

Posted , 9 users are following.

Hello All, I had my 7 Week Post Op Review yesterday, all ok except because I've had zero mobility for the past 12 months the surgeon said I had to concentrate on excersises for building my muscles in the thigh rather than pushing myself walking as this could be counter productive without the muscle strength. Overall he said I was doing great, it was only once home I realised I hadn't had an x-ray to see if the new hip was bedding in , is this normal ??

I  had an x ray the day after the op but not at my 7 week review when I was discharged.  The consultant said that he had checked the x ray and everything was fine.

    Hi Ann,

Interesting .... did he check range of motion, leg lengths ?   watch you walk ...?

I am in Holland and had an xray right before appointment of follow up visit - so he had it on his screen when I came in ... x-ray showed then that other hip had hardly cartilage left and also needed hip replacement surgery -

Maybe you can call the surgeon's office and find out if it was an oversight?

let us know how you are getting on otherwise okay

    big warm hug

Hi Renee, the last x-ray I had was February before my Op where it showed both hips need operating on, the surgeon checked my balance and to be honest that was it as he said he could tell by watching me walk to his room that I was still struggling. I've got an appointment for December at which point if he feels my muscles in my newly operated leg are stronger I'll be booked in for my right hip. X

That does not sound right, Ann -

No x-ray at all  after hip replacement surgery ?

How do they know if the hardware is put in correctly ?

I don't know if I would trust him with my other hip, Ann ... could you get a 2nd opinion ?

7 weeks is still early in recovery and we all heal at our pace, but you know that already ...

      How about physical therapy ?

      where do you live?

Hi Ann, I'm in London. I had an x-ray on day 2 before I was let out of hospital, and then at my week 7 appointment, and then again at about 7 months. Then I was discharged. Good luck with your recovery.

Yes it does seem very odd that X rays were not done before the OP left hospital. Apart from the desirability of making sure that everything was fine after the surgery surely there is always the possibility that something has moved out of place in the following days.

Seems all rather too casual for comfort and like you Renee I would be looking for an alternative surgeon.

      Cheers Richard

Thanks Judith, I'm back in Dec so hopefully all will be sorted out then. X

Yes, perhaps in December you'll have an x-ray. I took a photo of mine when I saw it on the computer screen. When I look at it, I'm amazed at how our bodies adapt to something new. (And I wonder how the surgeon managed to position it, when I only have a small scar!)

I thought the same as scars go mine is quite neat. I've just bought one of those small pedal cycles I'm hoping it will help with muscle building x

      Ann,

Let us know if the little pedal cycle helps you. I have been considering buying one too. I have a recumbent bike but it is hard to ride and thought maybe one of those mini pedalers might give me some of the hip and glute exercises that I need to get stronger. I am determined after my ITBand issue, to go easy but steady.

      Hugs,

      Peg

      hi judith ,

I  so agree --- Have you watched the surgery on youtube ?  I was in awe (pretty gruesome at times) of the surgeon's skill and what my body went through ... the end result, the placed hardware is amazing - after having watched it, it made me realize how major this surgery is and how much needs to be repaired and healed ...

      Hi Renee,

I still haven't watched it all the way through, it's a bit gruesome, but I will one day!

Hope you are well, sending greetings from London to Holland! It's a bit dull here today, and sadly the school holidays are over, I was back to work last week...

      Sending love, x
