7 weeks post op

I saw a physiotherapist last Friday and she was very pleased with me. I had just started feeling confident to not use the crutches and she agreed I could do it. She also said i could drive! yay. She gave me a resistance band to use on my ankles and do the leg out to the side exercise. It's SO much harder, but is the only way to strengthen the muscles around the hip. She didn't think my legs were different length, because apparently most people have slight differences normally. She was so knowledgable about the body and muscles , I was very impressed. The hamstring is in shock after surgery which explains the pain behind the knee where it attaches. The back ache should get better in time, again the muscles are just reacting to the hip ones being cut, and this puts the pelvis out of bonk. It's all to do with listening to our bodies, not overdoing things. Having said that I'm back at work 3 days a week to start off with. I work in a lab, so there's standing and sitting. My colleagues are very protective and make sure I don't overdo it.

Anyway, thats my news. For all those people in early stages of recovering, I did notice a real change at about 6 weeks, so be patient -it does get better.

Good luck to all

Ali x

    Hi Ali,

so good to read your post -- it does make all the difference when someone knowledgable explains and takes the time to tell what happened and how healing is taking place -

when are you going back to work?

I'm at just over 8 weeks and still need a crutch to walk uphill and definitely can't go upstairs without one. Haven't gone for a walk for ages.

      Annie,

I only ditched my stick at 10 1/2 weeks and it was mainly for steep hills towards the end. Are you going upstairs leading with your good leg? I can't walk upstairs yet with my bad side first.  I'm 12 weeks tomorrow.

One day things will fall into place.

Remember, I don't HAVE a good leg. I had bilateral THR. The non-cemented one screams at me when I climb steps, the cemented one just grunts LOL
