7 weeks post op, feel like I'm getting there!

Thought I'd write a little update!

7 weeks post op today.

I had a go at hoovering, and mopping on Sunday morning. Unfortunately had to quickly dry floor with towel as visitors appeared. The foot swings trying to dry floor put me back a little, could barely walk in evening. However have recovered. I have also started ironing, done the school things on Monday morning.

I have now managed to hover and mop all downstairs floors, so nice and fresh.

My daily walk is now 35 mins, but only managing 1 a day as I'm so tired with all the household chores.

Pelvic floor exercises still around 30/40 a day ( not all at once though). Was intending to start swimming yesterday, but was too tired so hopefully today sometime as no discharge for over a week and no spotbleeding eaither. I do occasionally leak ( bladder) when I walk too quickly especially if just been to toilet despite the fact that I pee the get up walk about and sit back down to try and empty properly. I have now stopped taking lactulose, and seem to be OK so far but can always take some if need. Still not doing any heavy washing loads, 2/3 wets towels can still be too heavy!

I feel that this time round gas been far more successful in comparison to last time. Most of time can hardly feel swelling, only ever feel heavy swelling if overdo it, like as if when you take a stride everything will fall out, same feeling if attempt to lift anything too heavy. But managed to avoid much of that this time, thanks to the constant reminders on the forum to take progress slowly and easy.

It's another beautiful day, nice and warm sitting out the back keeping my poor lonely last hen company. Pulled a few weeds, only easy ones in soft soil. For no more than 10/15 mins, so miss my gardening. Will not be able to turn the soil this year, will be a nightmare next year unless someone dies it for me.

Hope everyone else is progressing too.

It was a nice post to read.

I'm lying down, feeling shattered after doing some salad for tea, and looking at the sunshine, but honestly I haven't any energy to get up and go outside.

Not at two weeks until Friday, so it's lovely to imagine I might be able to do some of what you are doing at seven weeks.

Salad sounds good suzyq, it is very exhausting trying to do anything in the 1st few weeks, I don't think we realize how much the anesthetic takes out of us, or just how long it takes to recover.

I have always been one of these persons that when I do anything I give it my all - If i start decorating I won't stop till it's finished. Never could do a little at a time. - so I do find it so hard not to overdo thing's , and have found this forum so great as everyone always reminds each other to take it easy.

Had a hysterectomy and anterior 3 years ago and had no real info on dos and don't on recovery. I was mopping and hoovering far too early and back on feet too quick. Prolapsed again by 6 months post op, although not as bad as pre-op. This time in for anterior and posterior repairs, so being far more careful with dos and don't as have no wish to have to go back for more repairs.

Only worry now is my job where I can be on feet for full shift or if on a checkout can be packing shopping which can involve a certain amount of weight bearing. Packing can be done by sliding heavy things into bag first. But if on self scan lower back tends to get sore after about 3 hours and can feel like your fighting gravity , inards get really heavy.

They were quite good before I went in for op and would try get me a till after being on feet for 3/4 hours so hoping they will do the same when I return for a while at least!

Look after yourself and once your by 2/3 weeks start with a little light dusting/5 min walk, just a little at a time, then rest plenty.

At least the weather's improving and sun's shining, things will get better.

Oh I know smile Just feeling wiped out today.

Hope you cope when you get back to work, and they understand, although even my friend thinks I should be feeling better by now!

I don't think it's easy to understand the long recovery unless you have experienced it yourself xxx

Got to remind friends you've just had major surgery suzyq, and pelvic floor carries the weight of all the pelvic organs, so we really do have to be careful. I think because no one ever really talked about pelvic floor problems, we are never aware until it happens personally. I think if we did discuss these problems within family more younger ones would be more aware and more lightly to avoid such problems. At least I know that if I had been more aware I would have been doing my pelvic floor exercises religiously after every child forever!

Take advantage of any help you can get!

Lovely to hear some positive healing.

I'll be 6 weeks post op on Saturday from Rectal Plication, and rectocele repair.

I too am starting feel so much better, have totally rested and I am so pleased I have. I am finding the recovery for all the above this time so much better than when I had my hysterectomy 9 yrs a ago. I wish I had had this forum then I would have learnt to take better care of myself, it took almost 2 years to recover.

I would like advice about ironing and hoovering as consultant said leave it until 10-12 weeks, what if any advice would you give?

    keep up the good recovery!

      Hi beetlebugmik,

One of the ladies on the forum was given a 12 week chart of do and don't, hoovering and ironing was OK to start at 7/8 weeks, so that's why I've now started. The only advice I got from hospital was, nothing for 2 weeks, except lifting mug of water or similar, and little walk about house every hour.

From 2-6 weeks start with 2x 5 min walks per day and no more than mug of tea, building up too 2 x 20 min walks and no more than 1 litre of water.

If your consultant said to leave ironing/ hoovering till 10/12 weeks then probably best to follow his/her advice as she/he will know best.

Your are right though this forum is a godsend and matrons advice is invaluable.

      Take care,

      Phyl xx☺

Thank you for your comments I too was told about the weights etc

but I am going to leave hoovering and ironing as per consultant, i just want to do it right this time, I don't want to risk any of the good work I've done so far.

Yes, I would leave if too and follow consultants advice! He/she will no the extent of your repair. If you read older comments on the forum you find that those who heal the best do next to nothing for first 6/12 weeks.

Im sure matron said that posterior repairs can take a little longer to recover than anterior repairs , so might be worth keeping that in mind too!

      Hope you feel better soon,

      Phyl xx💖

Lovely to hear great hope for me I'm thinking 8 weeks is a better feeling, I'm 3 weeks and on 2nd infection and done everything by the book ! So maybe there's hope xx

I have so far managed to avoid infection. I hope it all clears up soon for you and you soon get back on track! Just realized today that I have no pain or leak when I cough! Last time I had op I had to hold and squeeze tight to cough and it was always painful, it was always like that and never ever improved! I was worried as I had heard that re-repairs are not always successful, but that's another reason to believe that this time may be much more successful !
