7th week on Citalopram and not feeling great

HI All,

I know I should be avoiding these forums and getting on with my life but I feel like I just need advice/reassurance from people that know how I'm feeling.  I took 10mg cit for 4 weeks for anxiety/low level depression and am now just into the 3rd week at 20mg.  Side effects have sort of passed; main issue is I am exhausted and foggy (no concentration whatsoever), go to sleep at 11pm every night after a bath & reading but then I wake up at anywhere between 2-5am and then have major adrenaline and twitchy body and I can't relax!  Makes me feel like I'm going to gag when I try and eat food for breakfast/lunch but by dinner I am hungry but nothing tastes that great.  I have no motivation and am forcing myself to be 'normal' by going out, exercising, working, seeing friends but I just don't feel'me'.

Can anyone relate?  Am I trying to rush this too quickly?  I have the desire and want to get back to normal but it just doesn't seem to be happening - oh and I have the most creaky, achy neck ever!

I'm having hypnotherapy which I hoped would help but although I enjoy it I can't see many effects.  If I buy another self help book I'll be able to set up my own library - it's ridiculous (I can at least laugh at myself!)

Anyone that can shed any light and have anything positive to say would be so welcome. Thanks everyone and let's have a good day. x

yeah i get all the same symptoms. here goes! okay so just relax into it. allow it to just BE! dont fight it. practice non resistence. after all we are on cit for a  reason. listen to guided meditations on you tube. these side effects are unpleasent but they may ease with time and we musnt give up. ive been on cit for 5 months and i have good days and bad days with side effects. id rather put up with the side effects and be far less anxious and far less depressed. cit isnta   cure all, it is there as an aid/tool to make life easier for us and it works. in meditation we practice non resistence to live a   fuller life. it means that we musnt fight scary things that happen. let them pass through us as they are only transient. they come and they go. i am on 40 mg cit and i walk round half the time with clenched teeth. it makes me tense  but man! cit is improving my life. cant have everything. (i must work on the whole clenched teeth thing)  use muscle relaxation techniques for your neck. people dont come on forums and sing the praises of this drug but it must have some incredible positives or people wouldnt take it. im glad im on it. dont over think it. stay present. basically, meditate. xx

I am doing so much better than I was without Citalopram. You are exactly correct, it is one of our tools to help us lead better lives. Of course it doesn't work for all but they shouldn't give up because something will.

Ativan didn't work well for me but Clonaxepam is working wonders. I am taking less dose and it lasts longer.

Exercise and eating right is huge.

      Best of luck x x

Great to hear it's helping you, and thanks for your message. I have just got out of bed after worst nights sleep in a long time....dozed off comfortably at 11pm only to wake at 2am with massive anxiety (adrenaline, stiff and twitchy muscles etc) - today is going to be fun ??

I'm thinking of swapping taking my cit in the evening instead of morning today. I just can't cope with these sleepless nights! X
