so sorry to read Laura. Do you have Sciatica? i had my hip replaced on Dec 9 so its in actuality about 3and a half months which isnt a whole lot. i do have Sciatica and I get an ache on the sude my hip was replaced. But i no longer have that excruciating pain I did have with my bad hip. I'm not pain free but I feel that time is going to improve that even though i probably wont be totally pain free. Laura do you have a recliner? I'm thinking you would be better off sleeping in a comfy recliner. I have a sleep chair recliner and I still sleep in it most nights. I'm still hurting on the hip replacement side and I don't want to accidentally roll on it. i sympathize with you believe me. Hope you can try the recliner. i wish you a quick recovery.

ty for your comments and support... yes I just got an electric recliner the other day and sleeping in it still gives me pain.. i just have to get up and walk a bit n sit in a firm chair for an hour...or the recliner...I sometimes get siatic pain in the past but was never confirmed.

I'm just thinking and hoping time will tell it will resolve.

I try n sleep on my no operated side but cant due to my bad hip and it also inflames my operated hip too when I do...

I suffered sciatica before op but not now till i lay on side without pillows. I am nearly 4 weeks post THR and i wasn't allowed to sleep on my good side for 3 weeks and do now but have to use quite thick pillow between legs to keep straight which helps alot and still not allowed on my operated side till 6 weeks if comfortable. I hate sleeping on my back and seize up and have to get up and walk about or do my post op exercises. I find I sleep in a recliner better than bed. I find even a pillow under your bum on recliner helps if you sink down to much as sinking is not good for your hip. Good luck hope you find a way to be comfortable

yeah it sounds like I might try n see if I can get better sleep in recliner cause bed I just look at it and cringe now lol....

I have heaps of pillows in bed between legs and around n never helped... but I'll try one or more pillows in recliner n see if helps thanks for the support and comment. I hope ur pain gets better soon too.

I understand completely i am also 9 days into to having my 2nd hip replaced. The buttocks pain I had that pain as well from my 1st hip replacement and I am having that pain from this hip replacement as well. I to purchased a lift recliner its okay but its not fantastic, I personally think its part of the recovery process but its going to get better. But yayyyy the hip pain is gone.

how long did the first buttock pain for your first hip last?

yeah I tried recliner last night unfortunately it didnt go far as back as I hoped and also my leg is longer than the foot rest and dangles over a bit to cause pain so I'm back to the bed every 2 hours ..... yes hip pain is gone and the re tear pain is gone from right but still remains for for left.... hope my pain and urs resides soon... fingers crossed..

well I'm now hearing and reading it takes at least one year to really feel better. I think as each month goes by ( hopefully) one feels better and better. I'm 2 1/2 months from surgery and i STILL have aching even on my other side. I find the more I move .the better it gets. One Just has to have patience I guess and keep moving

that is what I am thinking grit teeth and carry on I am only just over 2weeks from opp so suppose it going to be painful for some time just as I was getting back up on my feet doing couple walks a day plus exercise and out of the blue get this severe pain down the leg from hip down and it so bad I have great difficulty with standing and walking hope it passes soon another part of the get better program
