Hi to everyone that's on Celexa and still going though it and fighting to get better and feel or see better . Don't get me wrong had good days then bad again yes 8 month in . Still on 5 MG and going strong 😂 I remember reading on 1 blog that it took katecoge 9 month 1 time if I'm not mistaken

so I'm going to continue to wait it out we see or maybe get of the 5 MG not sure . Every time I think of going of the 5 MG I get scared and remember how bad of I was before I went on it . Don't want to go back there ever again , so many side effects thought Im going to die and it took so long to see a break in the mess of waiting on this Celexa to work . Yes I have good days now and also bad once from what I read called blips. Is anyone else on the Celexa that long and still struggling with bad low sad scary days and anxiety up and also yes crying ? If so please let me know I'm not alone . Thanks to everyone here on the blogs babsyboo

no, not normal, dont listen to people on here saying they take 6 months to work its wrong. 6 - 8 weeks MAX before they reach full benefit, try something else, i wasted so much time on these meds, whilst ive noe found out they were actually unbalancing my hormones and causing me damage... i should have come off them a long time ago... antidepressants actually have ruined my life id never touch them with a barge pole again

celexa save my life .and it took me 8months to recover.your opinions are just that.just because you had a bad experience does not mean other folks will have the same.

"hang on a minute, i never said others will have a bad experience, but i can tell you 100% citalopram does not take that long to work, you have most likely recovered on your own, i just cant stand to see people suffer for that massive amount of time, particularly if your like me and have children... it DOES NOT take 6 months to work, i cant stand people giving out that advice telling everyone to wait that long, wasting the time they will never get back, when they could be feeling alot better, i am one of those who wasted my time (albeit my issue has now been proven to have been as a direct cause of meds), its irresponsible and can be dangerous for someone to keep staying on these meds longer than 3 months at MOST and not getting any better, sometimes getting worse especially where depression is concerned, it just prolongs recovery that could be being made on different meds, and a "bad experience" is a massive understatement, 10 months and still suffering all caused by these meds in the first place, i nearly took my own life in February as a result.

like i said this is your opinion only.it took me 8months to recover and katecogs 6months to recover .the so called danger that you endure is yours and your experience only.these meds are not dangerous like you are stating .my mother has been on this med for 25 plus years .same dose .like i said this drug save my life.and iam still taking this med 3years n counting n never coming off.take care and have a great day.

      Hi Emily

We've chatted before. Actually yes, it often does take people many months to recover. My first time it took 6 months on Citalopram for me to fully recover - to feel absolutely normal again. After 20 years on the meds I came off but after a year restarted due to family illness and that second time it took me about 9 months.

These meds don't works in 6-8 weeks I'm afraid - maybe if you're lucky? Very very lucky? Its usually around the 3 month mark when you might start feeling only the beginnings of recovery - not even full then.

Everybody reacts differently to these meds but in my experience it generally takes between 3-6 months. If you don't take your time on these meds and start hopping from meds to meds then you don't give them time to settle before starting another meds. What happens is that you get start up then withdrawal, start up of the next meds and again withdrawal ...... and so on and so on, and your body won't know whether its coming or going and the effects of all these meds will linger on and on. Usually when this happens, people then come off meds and declare they don't work. If only more patience and time was applied then the benefit will probably have been achieved.

One thing everybody does though is fight anxiety which is completely the wrong thing to do. The more you fight it the more it will cling. Anxiety is born from stress and stress means you've pushed your body too far, too much, exhausted it, resulting in an excess of adrenaline - which turns into anxiety. Fighting anxiety means you continue to stress the body out, and you end up feeding anxiety with more stress and anxiety.

It takes a long time for your body to become ill with anxiety - and it'll take equally as long to recover. SSRI's meds don't work like other medicines.

      K 😉 x

Everyone is different on these meds, they didn't work for me, or Emily, and made my symptoms a lot worse, but I was in zopiclone withdrawal as well. . But they do work for a lot of people and help them recover. Think we need to keep an open mind . I wouldn't ever tell people to not take them as can be a life saver for many, I have friends they really helped, but keep an open mind as they don't necessarily help everyone, and some people do have bad experiences on them, whereas others they really help...

exactly, i just hate to see people like us, spending months on meds that are doing nothing, and in our case making us worse

The whole point of my post was that these meds take months, not 6-8 weeks to work.

No they don't work for everybody but equally you cannot judge a medicine by not giving it the full time it needs. You won't feel any change in symptoms for many many months and then can suddenly turn a corner - its like taking them blind. If after 6 months then yes, review it with your doctor.

I never said they should work in 6-8 weeks.

i dont agree at all, a phsyciatric nurse, drs, phsyciatrists, and several professionals have now told me that had the original Dr who prescribed me all this crap had taken me off as soon as i had a reaction to it, i most likely would not have got as mentally poorly as i am, i had NO issues before these meds were prescribed to me, they GAVE me anxiety and depression which im noe left with as a result of listening to people on here saying i needed to wait 6 months, i did that and ended up almost taking my own life which has scarred me even more... so im sorry but i think the advice being given on here is downright wrong, dangerous, and is not professional advice, and if people are "recovered" why would there be any need to continue posting on here becuase you woukdnt even he thinking of coming in here anymore unless there is still some sort of anxiety. im not continuing in this conversation any more as its pure nonsense and quite frankly, taking the advice from non professionals on here has ruined my life for the last 10 months.

then why are you here .only recover folks should give there experiences only .i for sure would not be taking any advice from folks that are not recover and still suffering thats for sure.and also i would not have the time degrading a med that did not work for me .there are millions n millions of people around the world on this meds with no problem whats so ever.you are just an ant on the scale.dont mean to be rude .take care emily and stop been so bias .life is short.

Yes and thats exactly half the trouble - all the medical professionals will tell you 6-8 weeks, because they read this advice from a manual. They’ve never taken the meds themselves and its often only the people who’ve experienced them who can give you an accurate account.

And you’ve just reiterated EXACTLY what I’m talking about. Why did your doctor give these meds for only sleep issues if you didn’t have anxiety and depression in the first place? If only he’d known!!

These meds first heighten emotions and feelings before they start working, so things are always worse in the beginning.

If you were prescribed them for sleep then you were also being given heightened anxiety which will of course make anyone depressed.

The reason recovered people like me keep posting on here is to help others. In fact I don’t reach out to people, they reach out to me … as you did. I gave sound advice via our messages and I will always say to let your doctor know whatever you decide to do, though sadly like everyone who has anxiety, we all want relief now - which isn’t going to happen. Its a long slow process.

Nobody has ruined your life - your doctor prescribed the meds in the first place.Once anxiety starts its then self fed - fear / anxiety / fear - each feeding each other.

Believe me, I’ve been exactly in your shoes, overdose taken, psychitrists, psychologists, medicine for 15 long years ….. and found my way through. I now have a keen interest in this subject and pass on what I’ve learnt over the past 41 years of experience.

Emily I wish you well and hope you also find your way through too.

      Take care.

      K xx 😉
