8 Months with plantar fasciitis 21 y/o

About 8 months ago I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis on my right foot due to overuse of my flat feet without orthotics. A month or two later I began using the custom insoles but still had no relief so my podiatrist decided to try a cortisone injection in my foot. The injection only made the problem worse because he hit a vein on accident. I am a student living in NYC and I also work in retail so I am on my feet almost every day.

As time passed I started noticing that the pain was spreading to my calf muscle, knee, hamstring and lower back. I have been doing phyiscal therapy for 4 weeks now and although it is a small amount of time I have not seen any improvement. Fast forward to now the pain has spread to my upper back, neck and even my shoulder and elbow. I am starting to question my initial diagnosis of plantar fasciitis because I am now feeling pain on almost the entire right side of my body. My next step is to see a chiropractor and a neurologist to see if there is something else going on.

If there is anyone that has had a similar problem or has any advice please comment as I am starting to become hopeless with this issue.

Sounds like you need to see the neurologist.... not the chiropractor. Good luck to you!!!

PF is normally in the foot and up the calf and it can be tight calf muscles which can be cured with exercises but a pain that travels up the body is a trapped nerve often in the spine or hip. A specialist can test your nerves and even the test can sometimes cure the problem as it did with my son or give it time and it may resolve itself.

Pf is normally a very sharp stabbing pain just in front of the heel which thick gel heel pads help with.

As Jerry say's its a neurologist you need to see.

Certainly agree with the others about seeing a specialist, but having severe foot pain can alter the way you walk. This can quickly bring on pain spreading from the calves, knees, hips and back. and should go away once the pain is relieved.

Hopefully it is this rather than an underlying neurological problem.

I had surgery for PF 2 weeks ago. I finally gave into surgery after a year of totally unsuccessful conservative treatments. I started having pain in my Rt lower back, hip and knee a

few months after PF symptoms started because of the change in my gait - favoring my Rt side so it was taking the brunt of my weight.

This could be your issue as well. I certainly hope that it is and not something more serious. Totally agree with others that you should get it checked out to assure that you don’t have something unrelated to your PF going on.

    Wishing you the best!!

Unfortunately, since posting this the pain has only spread to more parts on the right side of my body. I now feel constant weakness in my right arm along with a sharp sometimes throbbing pain in my right hand. I still have not found what’s causing the pain. I’ve gotten blood tests from my primary care doctor and my neurologist and all have come back negative. Maybe the plantar fasciitis got so bad it threw my entire body off balance? I still have been going to physical therapy and the therapist has been focusing more on my back than my right leg to see if this can alleviate the pain.
