8 Weeks and still not feeling good

Hi, I have been on citalopram for anxiety for 11 weeks in total now (3 weeks on 10mg and then 8 weeks on 20mg). I am also attending therapy and this is very slowly helping me process a lot of things in my life that my anxiety is affecting. As much as i am learning to cope with the feeling of anxiety very slowly, i have hardly had any relief from the anxiety. Last week i had 3 days where i felt completely happy and myself again, only for that to be taken away and to almost have a panic attack last night. I also feel very tired all the time and unmotivated to do things because of how tired i feel. should i give it more time? i am willing to be even more patient if it will mean relief, im just so fed up of feeling this way and after 8 weeks on this particular dose having only had a few days of relief i am wondering what to do.

Hi olly, unfortunately this is how recovery on these meds works. Its a bit of a rollercoaster. Initially you have a few good days or hours then maybe a bad week etc. As you get better your bad days may become a good week followed by a bad week then a good two weeks followed by a bad week. Im on week 15 and come a long way. I had a couple of blips along the way. The blips are horrible as you feel back to begining and like youll never recover but they do go. I also found that the days my anxiety did flare up id have a tired and bit of a low day after but eventually it will go. Give it more time for sure. Keep going mate, you'll get there in the end

Hi Harry! Thank you that is reassuring, if you dont mind me asking when did you start to feel your good times outweighed the bad? i just feel down at the moment because it is still mostly bad days and constantly waiting for the very very rare good ones. thanks again for your reply.

No problem Olly. For me its a case of looking back and realising im better than say a month ago. I started at the beginning of september and every month since then has been an improvement on the last. Id say the last month my good days have definitely outweighed the bad and my and days arnt anywhere near as bad as the beginning. Keep going, try go out for a jog and stay active even in lockdown, the good days will get more frequent
