8 weeks in, will it ever start working?

I started on 50 mg about 8 weeks ago for severe anxiety after giving birth. The first few weeks were a nightmare, I experienced every side effect plus some. Around 6.5 weeks I went up to 75 mg, and I am now almost 2 weeks into that. I feel like the first few days I felt great, but then the side effects came back. Not as severe as when I originally started, but still very frustrating. Anyone else experience this? I go back to the doctor Monday and am wondering if I should try 100 mg, but I don't want anymore side effects. Is it normal for it to take this long to take effect? I still feel anxious every day.

I also have heart palpitations a lot, anyone experience this as a side effect? (Ive been to a cardiologist and everything came back normal), so i assume its from the anxiety or medication because they happen even when I don't feel anxious. Blah, Im just so tired of feeling this way and am starting to lose hope in the sertraline working.

Hi Anna, pretty much same as you, 8 weeks in, 4 weeks on 50mg, next 4 on 75mg, doctor wanted me to go to 100mg but I chose you go to 75mg. Very up and down but less down periods now. It's very frustrating when it keeps getting bad after a good spell. Currently having a few bad days. How are you getting on now? Did you go up to 100mg?

I agree that the heart palpitations are caused by anxiety especially since the cardiologist found nothing of concern.

I started Zoloft in early May (25 mg) and had experienced all the side effects in the books. i upped gradually to 50, 75 and 100, and could say the 100 mg made the big difference for me. This was probably on week 9 or 10. Just like you, anytime i upped the dose I would feel ok for few days and then would get anxious and experience side effects.

Once i upped to 100 mg as per my doctor's advice, I had not had any side effects and my mood and mindset changed amazingly. Yes, I may still have a day or two a month when i am anxious and feel under the weather, but back in May i could hardly function (heart palpitations, panic attacks, obsessive intrusive thoughts, no appetite, hard time focusing etc). My advice is keep taking it, up the dose (check with your doctor), and try to keep your mind busy with nice things. All the best.
