8 weeks on Sertraline

I've been on Sertraline for 8 weeks now with little improvement in anxiety/OCD symptoms, I know It's time I went up to 75mg but I have been holding off from doing it as I wanted to give the 50mg long enough. I know it's silly but I'm really nervous of increasing it partly because I am worried Sertraline won't help me whatever the dose I take and if I stay on the low dose at least I have some hope that it might help if I increase in the future. I'd appreciate anyone letting me know if they had these thoughts too before increasing or is it just me?!. Thanks.

Hi Katie. I know how you feel about increase in meds. I am on 50 also and its been 16 weeks. My improvement started around 7 weeks but my sleep improved earlier than that. I still get an occasional anxiety almost an attack. Last night it happened but i did eat to many cookies which for some reason causes anxiety. But i do have more energy and better sleep. I went to my doctor about 2 weeks ago and we both agreed to hold off for another month to see if i should increase to 75. Im just alittle leary because of the side effects that go with it. Do you have anything to help you with the tough times. I take ativan, i cut mine in half and that would be a great improvement because hefore i would take a whole one. So hang in there, always keep your doctor informed of progress or no progress. Good luck, there is a light at the end of this tunnel. 😎

Thanks for the reply Brenda, I'm not taking anything else but the Sertraline. As I have a type of OCD they do say higher doses of AD are required to make a difference to symptoms of OCD opposed to Generalised Anxiety. I do feel it makes sense to increase as I've gone through the initial jump of starting to take it but not had any therapeutic benefits of it yet, I guess we all have to judge individually as to whether we get enough from the dose we are taking or whether It's worth the risk of increasing to benefit more from the medication. Thanks again.

I think the best way to find out if this medication is going to work for you is to hurry to 100mg. Not saying go from 50-100, but every week or so increase it. I know its scary, but i have become impatient with these months of suffering. If whats holding my healing back is my apprehension to dose increases then i want to find that out by increasing.
I wont go past 100mg tho. If i get to that point and am still not seeing the results i want i will begin tapering back and stopping altogether
