Morning all, well it was 8 weeks last Friday since my op. Just got back from 4 days camping in Cromer, we were walking about 5 miles a day, still have to use one stick, seem to hobble/limp a bit without, but we had a nice time, good to be out of the house. No pain whatsoever, thigh muscle aches a bit still, but it with improve as time goes on. So anyone just starting this jurney, chin up it gets better day by day.

That is good news and spurs me on ....... I am just going into week three and have managed to go down to one crutch, I thought this was an achievement, I can actually carry a cup of tea! To think that in another few weeks I may be able to walk so far and not have the aching muscles is something to focus on.
well done

I can imagine that sometimes reading the blogs pre-op may give you some worries. Most of the issues people suffer and related to the 'surgery' and not so much the procedure. I had my op 30th April and I won't lie, the first week was a bit of a rollercoaster, getting mess right for me and recovering from the anaesthetics, after that it is just a matter of getting muscles re-trained and focusing on getting better. Believe me, long term you a will definitely have the benefit. I am looking forward to getting out for a walk this afternoon (if it ever stops raining). Look forward to your op in the knowledge that after a few days post op you will feel s whole lot better - don't let some of the post-op niggles put you off having the op.

the key things I guess are to do the required exercises prescribed to you and to get some good rest in as well.
i had a raised toilet seat which I returned after 6 weeks as I didn't require it any more. As for your operation, believe me when I say your quality of life will be greatly improved. You will appreciate it long after your operation. You will get tender and sore areas but that will improve over time. But like I said do the required exercises and maintain a good rest pattern and you should be good to go.
im from New Zealand, I'm not to sure on how you do op and post op care overseas but over here, they normally try and make you walk with the aid of crutches and a nurse after your op and try and get you off a walking aid within the first two weeks. I'm a middle aged guy and lead a physical life both work and play and I can say I healed rather fast compared to what I have been reading. I went thru private health insurance that I pay for and what a difference it made otherwise I would still be waiting. Everyone is different tho and I accept that but when it's time to replace my prosthesis, the recovery time won't be the same.
when I went under the knife, there were 3 others before me who had the same op as myself but they were in their mid 20s which was kinda surprising. I'm just glad as well as fortunate to say that I had the best surgeon possible working on me and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone. He is a true expert and what he does is nothing short of a miracle. Oh well bud take care and good luck for your op. Remember if you are feeling down, pop on the forum, keep us posted and people will provide answers if you have the questions.
afterall that's why we are here.
