8 weeks post tib/fib fracture surgery

35 year old male broke both legs in my lower right leg tibia and fibula was hit on my motorcycle T-boned by a 2016 Maxima. Happened on February 23rd had debridement and external fixation on the 24th and then internal debridement and fixation on the 25th. Was in a cast for about 2 weeks because it had punctured the skin doc wanted to get in there and make sure it wasn't infected or that it was ceiling up properly I now have about an inch of bone missing from the larger of the two lower leg bones which is supported on the sides by plates and screws. According to the Doctor full weight-bearing however if I were to put all my weight on the right leg I feel like I would double over in pain! Was curious if anybody else had a similar fracture how they're doing and maybe if there's any parallels I can calibrate my recovery time better. The other thing I'm curious about is I had no insurance for the surgery and they claim I could be a candidate for a bone graph after 6 months now if I were to get insurance before the bone graft surgery would let insurance cover the bone graft surgery? Turns out the car that hit me was a Lyft driver which carries up to a million-dollar insurance policy so I lawyered up.

Sorry to hear this. I had surgery on my right ankle on 3/13/18. 5 screws,1 rod, surgery done same day. All I can say is I am now 75% weight bearing at 8 weeks post and just using a walker. Still in a CAM boot. I saw ortho yesterday and he said putting theweight will stimulate bone growth. If you can't do 100% at the moment do what your body allows you to do,then increase. They dont feel what we feel. Not sure, but it seems if the other dricer is at fault, they should cover your medical expenses, including the bone graft, because you've basically been recommended for it alreadymas a result of the crash.
