8 weeks pregnant with spotting and ovarian cyst.. advice needed, pls! :)

Hello,

I posted this same question in the Ovary Cysts section but I would like some advice from other pregnant ladies who have experienced this also. Thank you:

On Sunday I experienced some spotting with brown blood so I went to the Early Pregnancy Unit and they discovered that, although the pregnancy was fine (And I'm having twins!), I have a medium sized cyst on my left ovary.

I've had cysts in the past quite regularly but I'm just worried about the impact this will have on my pregnancy as for the past few days I'm getting this dull aching sensation where the cyst is located and I'm still occasionally spotting brown blood when I wipe.

I live in a little village quite far out from the nearest hospital so my question is, should I be worried? Or is this my cyst just going through it's cycle before it disappears? Is there any danger when it's just a constant dull aching sensation?

I'm afraid of surgery as my pregnancy is still so early on so I'm hesitant to contact my hospital.. so any advice would be really, really appreciated.

Thank you so much!

I'm not presently pregnant, although when I was, I also had ovarian cysts AND have had them off and on pretty much my entire life.  The dull aching sensation from a cyst is COMPLETELY normal.  In fact, thats how I always know I have one.  Its similar to the feeling of ovulation.  Kind of a constant pinching feeling.  Mine always went away on their own.  When I was pregnant with my youngest son, I had a cyst that got pretty large and the Dr said I may have to have my ovary taken out after he was born.  But that too, went away on its own.  Unless it is cancerous, I wouldn't be concerned at all.  I really doubt it will effect your pregnany or baby in any way.  Would be an exceptional situation.  Don't worry about it.  Just enjoy your pregnany!

Thank you for replying. I'm relieved to hear it's completely normal to feel that dull aching sensation with occasional pinching. I'm concerned about the amount of yellow-brown discharge that seems to always follow the aching sensation, though. Did you get anything like that? I'm pregnant with twins and did read that you have more discharge during multiple pregnancies so it could just be that.. it's just the fact that it looks like it might have a bit of brown blood mixed in that scares me a little.

But I'm trying to remain positive and relaxed. Thank you for your reply. X
