hello ladies,

had an open myomectomy feb 27th 2020 to remove 15cm fibroid at the back of uterus on the outside. had a bikini c-section cut in my 30s and the incision has been healing well. have a physical job i been working at part time 3 days a week and going into my second week back at work and getting sharp stabbing pains on the right side. the pains began 1st week of week but just thought perhaps its just my body getting the hang of things after being off 6 weeks. Had 4 days off in a row and the pain hadnt completely gone away by the time i had to go work again. 1st day of work week 2 was okay but 2nd day, i come back home and excruciating pain i could barely walk. Took some pain medication and not much difference. anyone else experienced this? i am wondering if i returned to work too early.. or is this just my body readjusting to work again. I dnt know and i dont want to hurt myself. and it is quite painful. im just gutted coz i thought i was doing great and then i feel like im going backwards again.

    Hi Belle88,

Sorry to hear about the pain you are experiencing. I had the same surgery a month before you.

I too experienced the stabbing pain but deep inside but figured it was related to the fibriods been removed and my body healing. I notice I get the pain more around the time when my period is due and also when I'm most fertile (according to my app).

I was careful not to do any exercise for 8 weeks and started 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure how active you were during recovery but it could your body getting back to normal. I was given some advice on my post, posted a few days back in regards to helping the scars and healing. There may be something useful.

Its hard when you feel like you are coming through the other end and you have a set back or experience pain.

    It will get better!

Thank you tee23778 ! I was so happy to hear from you and everyone because sometimes it feels like a lonely road and when you try to explain some of these things to people who have not experienced it u almost feel stupid. Also people dont know what to say or do. I have been really paying attention to my body lately and it seems there is a direct correlation to activity and pain. Even just standing/driving for long periods somehow activates pain. maybe not in that moment but when i finally sit down for some rest it catches up to me. So i have been working on really pacing myself and that seems to have helped. i still get back pain when i go to sleep mixed with this pulling/stretching sensation. i figure the muscles are coming back together. Anyway, i am okay so far. thank u for ure response.

I had the same surgery 2 years ago and had all my symptoms return 6 weeks post op. My doctor suggested a hysterectomy. That was not an option due to trying to have kids. I found an herbalist and haven't had a problem since.

    Hey there

I am sad to hear you are in so much pain.

for an open myomectomy, 6 weeks may be too early to go back to work. Some ladies can cope but with my personal experience, being at week 9 post open myomectomy, even right now I would not cope going back to work.

Speak to your Obgyn, to give you a few more weeks off. This is a major major op, my GP and OBGYN have reiterated how major this op is and you don't want to hurt yourself further.

Speak to them and let us know how it goes.

Thinking of you , hoping for the best

      Hey LandzM,

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. you have no idea what a difference u made. You are right sometimes its easy to forget how major this surgery was and be hard on yourself. I am doing ok for now, trying to pace myself a bit, but if it persists will definitely follow up with Drs.

    Hi Belle88,

I had an open myomectony 7.5 weeks ago and still in pain too. I have a huge massive overhang which I have never had before too and the swelling has not gone down at all. I am not in pain like the first few weeks but the swollen part is still sore and have recently been getting the stabbing pains, more on the right so far. I feel at least the swelling hurts so maybe that will go down (I hope!) but I am also still very tired but I think many are during the lockdown (I am in the UK). There is no way I could work at the moment, I am now unemployed but usually do a desk job and cannot sit upright for long as this starts worsening pain so switch between that and lying down. I started walking for 45 - 90 minutes 3 weeks ago and wear tighter slimming type pants or Spanx type leggings when cooler as I need the support when walking (I dont wear these at home as find them too uncomfortable) and do swell more which I expect.

The surgeon told me at least 8-12 weeks recovery but feel it will be much longer. I have not had a child or c section prior to this. Had 2 large (13x13cm and 12x11cm) removed plus 2-3 smaller (about 5cm). At this point I am not sure if they were pedunculated but know one had wrapped nerves around my liver and was connected to my uterus and fallopian tube as well, think this was the largest. Unfortunately my doctors is closed due to lockdown and my appointment with my surgeon is not for another 2 mths.

I do think you have gone back too early considering the size. Are you able to get signed off again? Hope you are well 😃
