My son was diagnosed with HSP at the end of February and is still having outbreaks till this day. We see a specialist in two weeks. Has anyone noticed that possible stress can cause the outbreaks? He lives one week with me one with dad and I have noticed that when we exchange he has an outbreak????

I saw your other posting.  Actually when a person is sensitive, almost anything can trigger more outbreaks.  Getting sun exposure, being too tired from anything like stress, bad foods, or exercise.  Anything that wears on the body and immune system activation.  Please research prednisone and HSP studies.  I believe the first return on search is now not the best response so read a few, then take the info to the doctor.  Unbelievable how studies show early prednisone usage correlates to better positive outcomes and people still on getting on it.  It's not like they put them on it for long.  It's just a tapered dosage depending on age and size like each day 6 pills (for example), then next day 6, then, 5, 5, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1.   Never suddenly stop it because that is bad for the body.  It may not be the right thing for his case, but at least study up on the info and bring it to the doctor.

    Hi Christina

Sorry to hear ur son story. U can read from my own post or read more from others about this HSP.

For my own observation, it can happens due to many things ie. food ( the 1st we suspect), the weather, mood etc. My 4 yr old son having it since March & his rashes quite worse at 1st with swollen here & there esp the joint area. Until now it slowly becomes better even sometimes still pop up but no joint pain anymore even weeks ago still c the swollen. These few days I can c his clear skin & we all r very happy including himself. We try cut down eggs, chocolate, peanuts or watever nuts, seafood except fish. Actually he is a very happy boy no matter what happen to him. So his mood is not the main caused of this HSP happened on him i guess. Last night, we went a dinner which got seafood & he ate it. Then we saw his red spots coming back last night with all concentrate on his foot area.

So we are not sure wthr seafood is the main caused now or because of he sit still on a high chair with sock & shoes on which maybe caused the foot heat.

We still need to watch it out .

Hope u able find out ur son reason for it too & get well soon.

Interesting that you said this as mine turns out to be directly related to eating chocolate in any amount.  I definitely suspect that in some percentage of these cases, it is due to food allergy.

Wish any of us knew.  So was I.  In fact, I think I may have had an HSP episode around my 20s, then against in my 40s.  I've eaten chocolate often all my life.  I have a theory that like many things, there is some change in the body either due to taking some of the newer cold drug medications or some environmental or perhaps just genetics in which something clearly changes so you develop an allergy which is different then normal allergies because clearly HSP is not a common allergic response.  However, I am hoping that this mode that your body is in develops a temporary sensitivity to some allergens and HOPEFULLY, as the body has enough time to get back to normal this allergy just might go away in time.

It is all very frustrating but all we can do is keep trying things for ourselves because HSP is so different for each person.  Just monitor everything closely and cut out things then slowly reintroduce them.  In case of allergy type, you do find out pretty quickly when introduced to the allergen as symptoms reoccur within the day typically.  Most of us aren't doctors so discuss all this with them.  We just know what has worked for each of us and learn more and more each day by tracking this forum.
