hi everyone

has anyone had any of these symtoms pls

had total hip replacement right hip 9 yrs ago, and i am now 68 yrs old 1 yr of recovery, followed by 6 months pain free, followed by groin pain and pain down theigh.

exscruciating pain on sneezing, coughing, urning over in bed and constantly stubbing my toe which causes such pain it stops me in my tracks for quite a few mins untill pain subsides,( i had never stubbed my toe before and its only ever my right toe with shoes on when walking )

i had investigations scan also x rays followed by second appinion and biopsey which i was told all looked ok and surgon said he would not advise any more surgery or replacement as this would only make things worse i also have like a constant twich in my groin when in bed at night which makes me jump and is really painful.

when walking i have to walk through the pain and i do some cycling which is ok just pain on mounting and dismounting my cycle

is there any end to the pain guys

thanks

no i didnt fall i was born with hip dysplasia and over the yrs it really affected me it started with a labreal tear then a microfracture then hip replacement then hip revision then after the revision bad dislocation from sitting in a resturant where i took my daughter for lunch how embarrassing is that being carried out screaming in pain and i also work there too . worked for only 4 more months and then body decided that was it no more standing puvoting bending etc then i fould out i had an posterior acl bundle tear so had my knee scoped last fri surgeon told me theres something going on with the knee cap when i stand my kneecap goes inwards and when i sit my knees go outwards so yeah tons of issues all on the left side i have 3 kids to worry about too but cant do much and im at high risk of hip dislocation as my sockets are very shallow and dont cover the head of fem

      Nicole66881,

I have hip dysplasia from birth too. My first total hip replacement was Nov 1993 after that surgery never felt better fast forward to Oct 2013 started having problems with my back, hip giving out at work I worked on my feet for 7 hours day 40 hours week. So I went to orthopedic doctor he did bone scan which showed my hip was loosening so i had to have revision THP Oct 2013 I had the surgery and was never the same 6 months after the surgery I found out I had sciatic nerve damage horrible pain I have been on disability ever since . The sciatic nerve damage was from the surgical site anyway don't find to many people on this site with hip dyplasia . Anyone getting hip revision make sure you find one that specializes in Total hip revision I didn't and now paying the price.

      Thank you for listening

    Hello Tubbins,

I had revision hip surgery 6 yrs ago and have had nothing but problems. unfortunately I got sciatic be nerve damage from the revision surgery 6 months after the hip surgery is when i found out I was not recovering like i should. so my surgeon sent me to neurologist and they did EMG test which confirmed my sciatic nerve damage. just an idea you might want to see neurologist to see what's going on

    good luck

let us know how your doing hope you get answers

so sorry to hear this. like my surgeon said "trauma upon trauma"

I am so sorry to hear this. I do not have any pain. Just discomfort. I do not sleep well as no side is comfortable.

your replacement sounds a million times worse. I am much younger than you and mine is not due to osteoporosis.

staying that, I have a friend in her 80's, who had two and never had pain before or after. She walks with a cane. I have another friend in her 80's and she walks freely with a slight limp.

I am just nauseas with Vertigo and occasional vomiting. The local pharmacist told me the anaesthetics linger for 3-6 months in your system as they are stored in the liver. It is two months post op and I feel sick and has this bitter taste in my mouth as if I held ten pills in my mouth for a long time. I am weak and very tired.

now and then I feel stiffness or a pang in the joint.

I am so sorry for your suffering.

im the same as you, right hip replacement 4 years ago, constant pain just the same as you. my right leg doesnt lift well either, i have to lift my leg into cars and bed. its ruined my life. . im now 60 and just about had enough. my right knee is useless and my right foot swells and almost constant pain. wish i never had the hip replaced. i do have friends who have had perfect replacements, im just unlucky. your not alone.

Dawn this is heart-breaking. You are considered young in terms of hip replacement and should theoretically fare better than a person 20 years older.

I am do sorry to hear this. I s your cut on your side or on top of leg? mine is on top of my leg, considered more modern for faster healing.

I tripped, fell down stairs and crushed my femural neck. I HAD to get a replacement. I am 54. The surgeon said to me a full replacement is a hell of an operation, hugely invasive and traumatic to the body.

his recovery prognosis is 12-16 months.

I wish I had words to comfort you. I have no pain. just discomfort.

thank you. yes im in 24/7 pain. i have a large scar on the right side of my right hip, almost invisable.

im hoping my surgeon may have some ideas when i dee him in November.

    Hi Tubbins,

Do you walk heel to toe, that should stop you stubbing your toe, I do walk better when walking heel, toe.

Have you tried magnesium citrate for your twitching. Magnesium is used by over 300 functions in the body therefore, when you first start taking it, it is being pulled every which way, this is why magnesium can sometimes seem like it does not work, you just need patience.

    Hi Tubbins,

Everyone else has suggested a nerve issue (which can also be coming from your back... so get that looked at too)... but, given what you have said about sneezing... have you been checked for a sport hernia? If you have one of these, it can put pressure on the nerve which can cause some thigh pain (usually on the lateral side)... and usually there is no noticeable bulge, so you would actually see this kind of hernia. It is really an internal hernia. When they dislocated your hip during surgery it is possible that they caused a tear. Anyway, just a shot in the dark, but worth looking into. The sneezing thing is what triggered the thought for me.

    Cheers

Hi I had a hip replacement 2 years ago (age 40) I was ok to start with cos recovery involved resting but once'got back to normal' I was in constant pain, even coughing and sneezing! after months of physio and no improvement I had an ultra sound scan on my groin that showed up quite a bit of fluid, I had that drained and a steroid injection. 8 weeks on I'm more or less pain free 😊
