80 yr old with severe osteoarthritis in left knee - questions about knee injections

Posted , 2 users are following.

80 yrs old with severe osteoarthritis in left knee cannot get total knee replacement till he gets TAVR to fix severe aortic stenosis.

Current Knee Dr ordered Orthovisc 4 injections, one weeks apart. Medicare approved this.

Patient read lot of testimonials on Internet forums has questions before using these injections.

Are these good questions to ask Doctor? What other questions should he ask?

  1. Since the osteoarthritis is so severe, how successful will the injection be?
  2. Why not have single injection, Synvisc-One?
  3. Will you personally perform the injection into the joint? Will you use ultrasound to guide the needle?
  4. Will you be easily accessible for those weeks after the shot in case of adverse reaction?

1-4 is not going to help osteo. osteo is years of damage to bone and tendons. no one can regrow or build up tendons or bone. osreo is a progressive disease.

best thing is ice knee, take meds that can help control pain , rest and wear a knee brace .

it's a unfortunate circumstance to been in right now. once she is in better shape after heart stent surgery things can start to progress forward . sending many blessings for the healing journey ahead.
