85 yr old woman needs magnifying glass advice

What is the best magnifying aid to allow my wife to more easily read the daily paper and hold the paper in both hands. She and I do not wish to use electronic version of daily papers etc.

My 85yr young wife now has dry macular disorder; which has taken over from wet MD.

Her optician says her reading glasses prescription cannot be improved.

My wife presently uses a SWHWEIZER 4500K handheld magnifying 75mm dia glass with a light.

She experiences difficulty in holding the daily newspaper in one hand and holding the magnifier in the other hand AND even more difficulty when trying to complete the crossword by pen.

You should be able to find a selection of illuminated magnifiers which are on stands so hands free, on the web. Do have a search.

      Thank you Marina_Dee

I consider such a device is the way to go BUT I welcome hearing from people who have used them, indeed are presently using them and their experience of such i.e. are they practicable, do they easily give sufficient vision, is it found advisable to have a device for each seating area.
