9 days after THR advice needed

It's now been 9 days since my total hip replacement surgery and my biggest concern is my foot and ankle of the affected leg swelling as the day goes on. It reduces overnight and then swells up again Is this normal and for how long ?

Also how much walking should I be doing at this time ?

I am doing the exercises from the physio as instructed

Thanks

its normal for the leg to swell. keep it up on pillows and ice the hip. in a few days once you begin to walk on a regular basis the leg will go back to normal, its a bit scary at first to experience swelling and it is one of the many challenges and typical stages of healing after THR surgery.

Hi Nigel, I had my THR of right hip on 18th February and both feet and ankles are still swollen.. Like yours they are alright in the morning but get worse during the day.

I have mentioned it to the nurses and they are not concerned, just advising me to raise my legs and rest when I can.
