9 days on zolof just went to 50mg extremely tired still can't naps

Yesterday my doctor wanted me to start 50mg.  I take it in the morning but now I think I should start taking at night.  The first time I took it I took it at night and it kept me awake. I have already been struggling with insomnia for months.  I have taken many sleep aids.  The only one I am taking at night is .25 or .5 klonopin at night only for sleep and anxiety.  I still can't take naps and I still can't fall asleep on my own.  I guess it is still too early in the treatment.  I took the Zoloft this morning at 9 and two hours after I took it it  hit me hard.  I couldn't do anything but lay down.  Yesterday I was in a mental fog half the day.  When is this going to get better.  I hate having to take klonopin every night.  I read that it too can have next day fatigue but not like what I have experienced this afternoon.  Also, my loss of appetite is still with me.  Does this ever go away?

I had the same problem. I was taking klonopin at night to sleep and Sertraline in the morning. 4 weeks ago I tried not taking klonopin (clomazapine) and I found I could sleep. I wake up several times a night but manage to get back to sleep. Why not reduce the klonopin and see if you can stop taking it.  I think that once you start taking sleep meds, it becomes a habit and difficult to think you cannot sleep without it. But you can!

    Good luck!

I don't want to have to depend on klonopin. Problem I've had many months when insomnia hit me I tried various sleep meds. There were a few nights I wouldn't do anything and actually got a few hours of sleep. But the problem is anxiety. I can lay in bed for hours not taking anything but my mind won't close. I usually don't take anymore than .5 klonopin but tonight I'm going to try not take anything. If I have to .25 works.

I listen to a meditation tape and also take coffea crudea which is a homeopathic remedy for sleep.  This may be a placebo effect but it doesn’t matter if the mind tells you it works!

I also concentrate on listening only to my breathing when I am trying to sleep. This focuses the mind away from negative thoughts which keep your mind racing all night.

I hope these tips can help you as my sleep has got much better since doing these things. Try to stay away from sleep meds as they trick you into thinking you cannot sleep without them.

      Good luck!

    Hi there,

Still early days. I’ve been on 50mg for 6 weeks now and don’t have that awful tired yawning feeling anymore. Even if I have only 3.5 hours sleep I’m not tired during the day now. I’d say my 4th weekend was when the fatigue subsided. I still don’t sleep for longer than 5 hours max but the tiredness has gone and I’m coping. Hoping it continues to improve. I have cut down my sleep meds to half a tablet per night and still getting some sleep. Not as much as I’d like but it is improving. I have an app called sleep cycle which helps as it shows when I’m actually asleep although I feel like it’s really light sleep. It kind of reinforces the fact that I AM sleeping x

Thank you vanilla123. It's not easy. I always feel better in the evening, bit more energy, and I can eat a little better. Tomorrow night I'm going to take the zoloft about 7. I usually go to bed at 10. I'll see if this works. I know you said the tired feeling will subside. I would prefer to take meds at night anyway and hope I will get my sleep back without having to do klonopin. Thanks!!
