9 mo Rash, Derm Stumped, Please Help.

38 yo female, always had contact derm. (metals) and no other skin issues. 9 months ago I got contact dermatitis from my wedding ring which ive worn for 10 years with no problems. I took it off, it didnt get better, then I got chapped lips, no big deal right? Wrong, the contact dermatitis started spreading, and is still spreading. The chapped lips never went away and also started spreading. It is this occasionally itchy eczema like rash, it occasionally has the itchy little blisters that leak when you scratch them. Then it dries out, and my skin literally flakes then shrivels and becomes scabby and hard. When it is not active (ie itching or flaking or red) it becomes flat and shiny and a different color then the rest of me. My dermatologist said eczema after seeing me for 5 mins and wrote me prednisone. It made it inactive (flat and shiney) but did not make it go away, as soon as i was off it it became active again. Now its spread to cover both my arms, chest, breasts, neck, face and head. Oddly nothing below the breasts. I am desperate for help, it is miserable and itchy and I HATE to go out in public like this. My derm is largely out of ideas and I need help. Please, if anyone knows what this could be or what I might do to get rid of it. I have tried every steroid and non, both rx and over the counter, cream under the sun, none have helped, the only thing I am currently using is aquaphor on my lips before bed as it seems to keep that area calmish. I have also noticed that taking a bath nightly and scrubbing the effected areas helps a little.

the rash cycle you describe sounds exactly like what i have at the moment. it started as little bumps that then turned into patches. The patches go red and really itchy before going dry and flaky, then shiny before going a strange sort of purple brown colour that look like stains. mines on my back, stomach, legs (started on my back) I'm waiting to see a dermatologist at the moment the gp has no idea what it is and just told me to keep applying emollients. The only thing i have noticed is it flairs up the week before i am due on my period so i'm thinking it could be to do with my hormones. Hope you get sorted soon
