I had a cold in January which went away, however I was left with a fullness feeling in my left ear, was told to take decongestants which did not help, then a Steroid spray in my nose which did not help, this was for about 2 months I then started to develop really bad headaches. I saw an ENT who checked my Eustachian tube which was clear. Was unsure what the cause of the fullness and headaches. Hearing checked and was advised a slight loss of hearing in the left ear. Told to take over the counter meds for headache (which never worked). ENT referred me back to my maxillaryfacial surgeon as had a washout of my jaw joint due to dislocation previously, ENT thinking this was the issue. Saw Maxillary Facial surgeon who said nope nothing to do with washout. At this point no level of pain killer would help and was prescribed nortriptyline which keeps the headaches bearable. Was referred to Neurology, who was more interested in saying the headaches will go, but will do a MRI to to make sure. MRI Clear. My head feels heavy, if I move it side to side it makes a wooshing noise, I hear buzzing and hissing noise in my head, it constantly feels blocked, my headaches are not bad, however if I stop the nortriptyline they are awful, just dont know where to turn. I have read the symptoms of Menieres disease and wondered if I fit into this category. I feel I am back to square one and finding the strength to exist very difficult. I was a very fit person before this all happened, ate well ran marathons and did not drink alcohol...I feel as is the medical world is hearing me, but not listening.....

    Hey Bev,

I had fullness (aural fullness) in my left ear for 2 years before my first acute attack. I have bilateral Meniere's disease. Maybe you should consider changing ENT's, like everything, there are good ones and bad ones.

    All the best 😃

    Hi,

I have been diagnosed with Meniere's. I am sure it started with a bad cold 15 years ago or so. I had similar symptoms off and on for many years. Last year my hearing got blocked again, the ringing really load and I started having dizzy spells. I went to an ENT for the first time and was diagnosed. My ENT told me to avoid salt. That seemed to help with the dizzy spells but not the hearing or the ringing. He put me on Presodine (oral steroid). My hearing came back within about weak and significant improvement with the ringing. Not sure if it will persist, but I was pretty pessimistic that anything would work.

    Good luck!
