9 weeks fibula not healed

Hi All

My previous message was written to encourage people bc I was starting to walk with little pain after 6 weeks of NWB. It took 2 weeks n PT but I was sure I was on the mend.  Well.... I followed up with a different Dr because I am now living in another state and this Dr says my fraction is not healed and he no longer wants me to go to PT.  He is OK with me walking with a brace and would have had me walking from the beginning.  I am confused bc I thought the PT was helping but he implied it was interfering with my healing.  The first dr had told me I wasn't completely healed but sent me to PT. Two different opinions and the fact that 9 weeks out I still have a fracture on my fibula.   Think I need a 3rd dr.  Why haven't I healed??

I quickly wanted to touch base with all of you to give you an update on my progress.......9 weeks in and I am non union. sad The surgeon said he is not ready to operate- though I am ready for it....he said 3 more months in the boot. Needless to say- I am weight bearing now smile  I look like a tin soilder walking around, but I no longer have numb bum......I moved into my new place, which was challenging, but I am alot more setteled. How are all of you ?

Hi Lisa, I am sorry to see you are non union. But also happy you are wb. I am doing well, and go to my surgeon on the 22nd, hopefully for the last time. Just be positive and don't do anything that could further damage the ankle. I hope by the end of the three months you will be totally recovered . Keep us updated and just keep trusting.

Hmm. They never told me I was non union for nearly 4 months and did a CT scam to confirm. New surgeon said it should have been operated on not long after I broke it. Glad you're happier and don't have a numb bum lol. I'd get a second opinion. All you exercising will benefit you in the long run, even if you do have an op.

Hello. I had ORIF on Nov 21 2016 and I am obviously 9 weeks out. I am unable to walk and am dealing with nerves... I have tried the walking mechanisms but I can't follow through. I had a fractured fibula and a plate/6 screws later. Also as a runner I am going insane. I haven't had any fusion but I know the whole story how the story is different. I want this peg leg to work again. When I mean nerves....real ones that zap your spinal cord and hit your head....looking for answers

Hi Roach63.  I know this is about a year old post from you but I am curious to know how you made out.  I broke my Lateral Maleous (lower part of my Fibula) just over 9 weeks ago.  It is a stable fracture, non-displaced, no surgury required injury.  It hasn't caused me much pain even when I did break it.  I was given an AirCast and weekly follow ups for the first 3 weeks to ensure there was no shifting.  Then another Xray and follow up at 6 weeks which was pretty much the same.  However today at 9 weeks and 2 days the Xray still looks like it did on day one and I am VERY concerned about a "non-union".  Doctor said we will give it another 6 weeks as it could still could join (really?) and has ordered me a bone stimulator.  How has your injury healed?

Hi just wondered if your fibular has healed yet, as I’m 9 weeks on and having the same problem

Sadly no.  Break was June 11th, 2017 and it is now December 18th.  I had a follow up Xray last week and the bone is finally showing some signs of healing.  It should hopefully heal on its own but very slowly.  I have been using the Exogen Bone Stimulator for almost 4 months now which I think is kinda like wearing a copper bracelet LOL.  Luckily I am very mobile and able to get around on it pretty well.  Not able to run yet but I am going to start to work on that very slowly.  I now have a follow up appointment booked for the end of February as they feel that a 10 week follow up should hopefully show a near full heal.  Lets see if I can get a picture up here for you.  The one on the right is the day after I broke it and the one on the left is last week (6 months later).  UGH.

Wow has this all been helpful. I was feeling all alone. Although the talk about lengthy healing is very discouraging at least it helps me put  it all in perspective... I’m at 10 weeks of NWB after a fractured tibia and finally got the Ok to start some weight bearing. My leg is so stiff and the pain and swelling in the ankle is so frustrating. Time will tell I guess

Hello everyone. Was so happy to come across this chat. Nice to feel not alone. 7 weeks ago i broke my tib and fib.surgery was needed, a rod an 4 screws.

Last week i was given the ok to slowly start putting weight on it (6week mark)its all i had been waiting for. I really underestimated how long this recovery is going to take.

Im no where near ready to take a step.my mind is playing tricks on me im so scared that im going to rebreak it. Does anyone else have these fares?
