9 weeks post LTHR but right hip now sore

Posted , 7 users are following.

I had my lthr in December 2016, I was on crutches for 14 months before the surgery and have a lot of muscle atrophy because of this. Surgery went perfectly, recovery is great. I am now walking without any walking aids, I do my stretches and physio every day to try and get these shortened muscles to wake up.

For the past two weeks my right hip and surrounding area is in a lot of pain. I was never in pain before the surgery but now my right hip aches and pinches as soon as I use it. Has anyone else experienced their other hip hurting during recovery?

Im hoping its just my muscles aching because I am stretching and doing physio every day, but im terrified that my right hip is going now as well! I have my 12 week consultation with my surgeon soon, but wanted to know others experience.

Thank you.

See your doc for diagnosis. Some of us have OA in both hips. In many cases all the struggling we go from the left THR after is a strain and effects on the rt hip especially with OA too.

So  it's any bodies guess what can be the cause. Best to have X-ray and diagnosis. I don't know ur health history or what meds you take. Many people have side effects from meds too!

Have a healthy and continued great recovery on the left hip. Continue a diagnosis for the rt hip. The best way for answers to your question.

    Stay strong and best wishes.

    Hope😀

    Hi.

I had a similar experience, I had RTHR last July but was also on crutches from Jan until about end September when I was able to walk without aid again.

I suffer with OA and RA, I had no problem with other leg joints previously but started to get pain in my left knee and think this was caused by extra weight bearing on good left side.

I am now recovered muscle still building back up on operated right leg but walking naturally again without pain still get occasional pain in left knee but hoping that will resolve over time.

    Overall really pleased with result.

    Good luck with your recovery

Specialist told me, when he was looking at my x-rays, that my left hip also had OA, and would need replacing in the future he guessed about 2 years.

Wrong got to 13 weeks after first surgery, when I tore the cartledge in the hip joint, or what was left of cartledge, ouchhhhh. Refered back to surgeron who did my first replacement, finally saw him at 27 weeks post first RTHR surgery.

More x-rays, and he said he could see the difference between joint space of in surgery x-rays and current, the day I saw him and booked me for surgery, even kind enough to show me, wow you could see the joint space was way less than it had been when he did my right hip surgery..

Six months later finally reached top of surgery list, and left hip replaced as well.

    Hi Mishelle

9 weeks is really very early - yes exercises are great but dont overdo it !  I had a few sessions of hydrotherapy and it was great - really got me moving again - and they correct my posture also when i was walking so i did not limp !

I did not have pinching but it was very sore - especially if i overdid it !

I walked every day and slowly biult walking up day by day, this with hydro therapy, the exercises they give you and physio it slowly improved - but it has still taken a year !

I am now back to riding horses and walking the dogs a long wasy - even then still get some pain ! But it is much better now x
